The opening of the country's main Christmas tree is scheduled for December 6 - Saint Nicholas' Day according to the New Julian calendar, and it will stand until January 10.

The country's main Christmas tree this year, according to tradition, will be installed on Sofiivska Square in Kyiv. Such a decision was made by the capital's Defense Council, Mayor Vitaliy Klychko reported on his Telegram channel.

"The city will not spend money. Just like last year, the Christmas tree will be installed and decorated at the expense of patrons. But with compliance with the regime of restrictions on the use of electricity," wrote the mayor of Kyiv.

He noted that responsibility for the installation and maintenance of the main New Year tree, all resource and financial support related to this, is assumed by "Global-Decor" LLC.

At the same time, according to the mayor, no mass events, fairs and entertainment are planned on Sofiivska Square this year.

"If the district state administrations of the city will plan any festive events in the districts, then only with compliance with safety rules, in places where there is shelter. And also not at the expense of the Kyiv budget," Vitaliy Klychko added.

Since this year Christmas in Ukraine is celebrated according to the New Julian calendar, the Christmas tree will begin to be installed on December 3, and the opening is scheduled for December 6. The celebration will end on January 10.

Головна ялинка країни цього року, за традицією, буде встановлена на Софійській площі у Києві. Таке рішення ухвалила Рада оборони столиці, повідомив міський голова Віталій Кличко на своєму телеграм-каналі.

"Місто грошей не витрачатиме. Як і минулого року, ялинку встановлять та прикрасять за рахунок меценатів. Та з дотриманням режиму обмеження використання електроенергії", – написав мер Києва.

Він зазначив, що відповідальність за встановлення і обслуговування головної новорічної ялинки, все ресурсне та фінансове забезпечення, пов’язане із цим, бере на себе ТОВ "Глобал-Декор".

Водночас, за словами мера, жодних масових заходів, ярмарків та розваг на Софійській площі цього року не передбачено.

"Якщо райдержадміністрації міста  плануватимуть якісь святкові заходи в районах, то виключно з дотриманням правил безпеки, в місцях, де є укриття. І теж не коштом бюджету Києва", – додав Віталій Кличко.

Оскільки від цього року Різдво в Україні відзначається за новоюліанським календарем, ялинку розпочнуть встановлювати з 3 грудня, а відкриття заплановане на 6 грудня. Святкування завершиться 10 січня.
