The community of Kryvorivnya asks the Synod of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine for a full transition to the New Julian calendar.
The famous Hutsul Christmas Carol near the Church of the Nativity of the Holy Virgin in the Carpathian village of Kryvorivnia near Verkhovyna in Ivano-Frankivsk region will be held only once this year – on December 25. The rector of the church, Ivan Rybaruk, told about it, reports "Espresso. Zahid".
According to the priest, the Christmas service will not be held on January 7, and the Baptism of the Lord will be celebrated on January 6.
"Of course, there will be a Carol on Jordan, of course. But the All-Ukrainian Christmas Carol will only be on December 25", – Father Ivan concluded.
He noted that the Kryvorivnya community has already submitted a request to the bishop to ask the synod of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine for permission to switch to the New Julian calendar, that is, to celebrate all holidays according to this calendar.
We will remind you that the Hutsul Carol of the Verkhovyna Region was included in the National List of Elements of Intangible Cultural Heritage. A year earlier, the process of including it in the relevant UNESCO international list started. It is a popular tourist attraction that attracts tourists to Verkhovyna for Christmas.
Caroling in the Verkhovyna region begins after the end of the Christmas liturgy. Then men in keptars come out of the church and line up. Some have Hutsul axes, trembits, horns or violins in their hands. After that, a festive solemn walk around the church begins. A ring forms around the temple. The carol sounds in different ways: sometimes it subsides, then it gains strength again. Then the priest leaves the church and blesses the carolers.
"Espresso" TV channel will broadcast live the Christmas service in the Church of the Nativity of the Holy Virgin in Kryvorivno on January 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The broadcast of the Hutsul Carol will begin at 1:00 p.m. You can watch it at the link.
