Winter fairy tale: the Carpathians were covered with the first snow

The first snowfalls of the 2025-2026 season took place over the past two days in the mountainous areas of Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia regions. In particular, fresh snow covered the slopes of the largest ski resorts - Bukovel and Drahobrat, eyewitnesses report on social networks.

In Drahobrat, which is the highest ski resort in the Ukrainian Carpathians, snowfall began on the night of October 27. Over 30 centimeters of snow fell over the course of two days. Social media users are already posting videos of the first snowboarding on the virgin snow of Drahobrat.

The slopes of the largest ski resort in Ukraine, Bukovel, were also covered in snow. The ski slopes here are not yet suitable for skiing, but the active season is clearly not far off.

According to the Chornohirskyi Mountain Search and Rescue Post, as of the morning of October 29, it is cloudy on Pip Ivan Chornohirskyi Mount, visibility up to 30 meters. Southwest wind 15-17 meters per second, air temperature -3°C. Fresh snow drifts on the summit in places up to 80 centimeters.

The State Emergency Service warns that on October 29, significant precipitation in the form of rain is also expected in the central and eastern parts of the Zakarpattia region, with sleet and snow in some places in the mountains. In the highlands, wind gusts of 15-20 meters per second and accumulation of wet snow. The first level of danger (yellow) has been declared in the mountains.

Due to the worsening weather conditions, the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Ivano-Frankivsk region calls for caution during mountain trips.

"When going to the mountains, follow the weather forecast updates and be sure to download the "Rescue in the Mountains" application. This application is designed for communication between tourists and the rescue service, namely: voice calls, transmission of SOS signals with geographical coordinates," - the rescuers urge.

За даними Чорногірського гірського пошуково-рятувального посту, станом на ранок 29 жовтня на горі Піп Іван Чорногірський хмарно, видимість до 30 метрів. Вітер південно-західний 15-17 метрів за секунду, температура повітря -3°С. Перемети свіжого снігу на вершині місцями до 80 сантиметрів.

Державна служба надзвичайних ситуацій попереджає, що 29 жовтня в центральній та східній частині території Закарпатської області також очікуються значні опади у вигляді дощу, в горах подекуди мокрого снігу та снігу. На високогір'ї пориви вітру 15-20 метрів за секунду та налипання мокрого снігу. В горах оголошено перший рівень небезпечності (жовтий).

У зв'язку з погіршенням погодних умов, Головне управління ДСНС України в Івано-Франківській області закликає до обережності під час гірських мандрівок.
