The international sign "Blue Shield" has been installed on an architectural monument of national importance. This emblem symbolizes the protection of cultural values during armed conflicts. This was reported by the Department of Cultural Heritage Protection of the city of Mykolaiv.

Built in 1827, the Mykolaiv Observatory is the oldest observatory in Ukraine and one of the oldest in Eastern Europe.

In 2007, the Mykolaiv Observatory, as a historical and cultural reserve and a unique historical, architectural and astronomical complex, was included in the preliminary list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites from Ukraine. In 2023, at an extraordinary meeting, the UNESCO Committee supported Ukraine's initiative to include 20 sites, including the observatory in the city of Mykolaiv, in the International List of Cultural Properties under Enhanced Protection.

Simultaneously with the installation of the "Blue Shield", a monument-protection supervision was carried out over the condition of the cultural heritage site, which has been in need of restoration work for many years.

Збудована у 1827 році, Миколаївська обсерваторія є найстарішою обсерваторією в Україні та однією з найстаріших у Східній Європі. 

У 2007 році Миколаївська обсерваторія, як історико-культурна заповідна територія та унікальний історико-архітектурний і астрономічний комплекс, була включена до попереднього списку об’єктів Всесвітньої спадщини ЮНЕСКО від України. У 2023 році на позачерговому засіданні комітет ЮНЕСКО підтримав ініціативу України щодо внесення 20 об’єктів, в тому числі – обсерваторії  у місті Миколаїв, до Міжнародного списку культурних цінностей, що перебувають під посиленим захистом. 

Одночасно з встановленням ''Блакитного щита'' було проведено пам`яткоохоронний нагляд за станом пам’ятки культурної спадщини, яка вже багато років потребує реставраційних робіт.
