The museum considers the presence of Russian-language inscriptions in the space of the memorial complex, which relay enemy narratives and serve as justification for Russian aggression, to be unacceptable.

Russian-language inscriptions left over from the Soviet period were dismantled from the sculpture gallery "Heroes of the Front and Rear" on the territory of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in World War II. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine.

"We continue the process of decolonization and cleansing the museum space of Russian-language inscriptions and Soviet ideological layers. This is an important step towards eliminating the propaganda markers of the totalitarian regime. We are consistently freeing public space from imperial narratives," emphasized Deputy Minister of Culture Ivan Verbytskyi.

It is noted that the war museum carries out deep work with contexts, meanings, and historical accents. In particular, the institution abandons outdated Soviet interpretations and offers visitors a Ukrainian, critical and modern view of the events of World War II.

"The War Museum consistently works to ensure that the memorial space speaks the language of modern Ukraine - a country that defends its freedom, memory and the right to its own history," said Yurii Savchuk, Director General of the War Museum.

According to the Ministry of Culture, work on the decolonization of museum exhibitions will continue. It includes reviewing texts, visual solutions, scientific commentaries and conceptual approaches to presenting historical material, taking into account the modern context and experience of the war that Ukraine is experiencing today.

As a reminder, in 2023, the Soviet coat of arms on the shield of the "Mother Motherland" sculpture was replaced with a Trident. In 2024, the letters that spelled out the names of cities and the image of the Soviet "Gold Star" medal on the Alley of Hero Cities were dismantled.

Зі скульптурної галереї "Герої фронту й тилу" на території Національного музею історії України у Другій світовій війні демонтували російськомовні написи, що залишилися з радянського періоду. Про це повідомляє пресслужба Міністерства культури України.

"Продовжуємо процес деколонізації та очищення музейного простору від російськомовних написів і радянських ідеологічних нашарувань. Це важливий крок до усунення пропагандистських маркерів тоталітарного режиму. Ми послідовно вивільняємо публічний простір від імперських наративів", – наголосив заступник Міністра культури Іван Вербицький.

Зазначається, що музей війни здійснює глибоку роботу з контекстами, сенсами та історичними акцентами. Зокрема, заклад відмовляється від застарілих радянських інтерпретацій та пропонує відвідувачам український, критичний і сучасний погляд на події Другої світової війни.

"Музей війни послідовно працює над тим, щоб меморіальний простір говорив мовою сучасної України — країни, яка захищає свою свободу, пам’ять і право на власну історію", – зазначив генеральний директор Музею війни Юрій Савчук

За інформацією Мінкульту, робота з деколонізації музейних експозицій триватиме й надалі. Вона охоплює перегляд текстів, візуальних рішень, наукових коментарів та концептуальних  підходів до подачі історичного матеріалу з урахуванням сучасного контексту та досвіду війни, яку Україна переживає сьогодні.

Нагадаємо, у 2023 році на щиті скульптури "Батьківщина-мати" замінили радянський герб на Тризуб. У 2024-му демонтували літери, якими були викладені назви міст та зображення радянської медалі "Золота зірка" на Алеї міст-героїв.
