A blow to the heart of Kyiv: Russia damaged the War Museum at the foot of the "Motherland"

The National Museum of the History of Ukraine in World War II, one of the most visited tourist locations in Kyiv, suffered serious damage as a result of the blast wave and debris.

According to the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, the main blow fell on the Hall of Fame, the heart of the museum complex, located directly at the foot of the "Motherland" monument. This object is a monument of science and technology of local importance. The blast wave damaged the unique glazing and interior decoration of the pavilion. Museum specialists, together with the police, are already documenting the damage and conducting an initial assessment of the destruction. The "Motherland" monument itself remains visually intact, but the area around it is currently cordoned off for examination. Engineers are currently conducting a detailed scan of the structures for microcracks. Fortunately, a significant part of the collection was secured in advance.

Minister of Culture Tetyana Berezhna called this shelling a "cynical blow to memory" and an act of "historical looting", as the aggressor attacked a place dedicated to the fight against Nazism in the 20th century. The head of the Ministry emphasized that the attempt to destroy the memory of the fight against the tyranny of the past only unites Ukrainians today.

Despite the damage, the museum continues to operate in a limited mode. Individual halls and open areas with military equipment may resume work in the coming days after demining and cleaning.

We remind you that this attack was part of a large-scale shelling, during which the air defense neutralized more than 450 targets throughout the country. In addition to the museum, residential buildings, a kindergarten and energy facilities were damaged in Kyiv.

Внаслідок вибухової хвилі та уламків серйозних пошкоджень зазнав Національний музей історії України у Другій світовій війні - одна з найвідвідуваніших туристичних локацій Києва.

За інформацією Міністерства культури України, основний удар припав на Зал слави, серце музейного комплексу, розташований безпосередньо у підніжжі монумента "Батьківщина-мати". Цей об'єкт є пам'яткою науки і техніки місцевого значення. Вибухова хвиля понівечила унікальне скління та внутрішнє оздоблення павільйону. Фахівці музею спільно з поліцією вже документують збитки та проводять первинну оцінку руйнувань. Сам монумент "Батьківщина-мати" залишається візуально цілим, проте територія навколо наразі оточена для проведення експертизи, інженери проводять детальне сканування конструкцій на предмет мікротріщин. На щастя, значна частина колекції була заздалегідь убезпечена.

Міністр культури Тетяна Бережна назвала цей обстріл "цинічним ударом по пам'яті" та актом "історичного мародерства", адже агресор атакував місце, присвячене боротьбі з нацизмом у XX столітті. Очільниця Міністерства підкреслила, що спроба знищити пам’ять про боротьбу з тиранією минулого лише згуртовує українців сьогодні.

Незважаючи на пошкодження, музей продовжує роботу в обмеженому режимі. Окремі зали та відкриті майданчики з військовою технікою можуть відновити роботу вже найближчими днями після розмінування та прибирання.

Нагадаємо, що ця атака стала частиною масштабного обстрілу, під час якого ППО знешкодила понад 450 цілей по всій країні. Окрім музею, у Києві постраждали житлові будинки, дитячий садок та об'єкти енергетики.
