The history of totalitarian regimes in the Rivne region is told by the original inscriptions of prisoners on the walls of the torture chambers and archival research materials, which are demonstrated with the help of multimedia technologies.

The new exhibition space "Former Prison" was presented by the Zdolbuniv Museum of Local Lore in the Rivne region in its own dungeons. The exhibition is dedicated to the tragic events of the history of terror and repression in Zdolbuniv region in the first half of the 20th century, the museum administration reports on its official Facebook page.

The Zdolbuniv Museum of Local Lore is located in a century-old building, which housed the repressive bodies of various occupation regimes at all times. There were pretrial detention cells in the basements.

"Dungeons, which used to house cells for holding prisoners, torture chambers and punishment cells, have now become a place of memorialization, where visitors can explore the history through interactive multimedia technologies. Here you can also see the original inscriptions on the walls of the cells left by the prisoners of the time." - reported the press service of the Rivne Regional Council.

The exposition reveals the history of totalitarian regimes that operated in the region through the individual stories of victims of terror and repression. It is built on the basis of archival documents, oral testimonies and historical research.

"What was conceived and created as part of the "Former Prison" project is not only a modern exhibition, but also an important contribution to the preservation of historical memory," says Andrii Bryzhuk, deputy director of the State Historical and Cultural Reserve in the city of Ostroh, who attended the opening of the exposition.

The museum also emphasizes that the main goal of the exhibition is to preserve the memory of the events that took place outside the walls of the prison, and to remind visitors of the difficult pages of the history of this place.

Новий експозиційний простір "Колишня в'язниця" презентував Здолбунівський краєзнавчий музей на Рівненщині у власних підземеллях. Виставка присвячена трагічним подіям історії терору та репресій на Здолбунівщині у першій половині ХХ століття, повідомляє адміністрація музею на офіційній сторінці у Facebook.

Здолбунівський краєзнавчий музей розташовується у сторічному приміщенні, в якому за всіх часів розміщувалися репресивні органи різних окупаційних режимів. У підвалах були камери попереднього ув'язнення.

"Підземелля, де раніше розташовувалися камери для утримання в'язнів, катівні та карцери, тепер стали місцем меморіалізації, де відвідувачі зможуть дослідити історію через інтерактивні мультимедійні технології. Тут також можна побачити оригінальні написи на стінах камер, які залишили тогочасні  в'язні", – повідомила пресслужба Рівненської обласної ради. 

Експозиція розкриває історію тоталітарних режимів, які діяли в регіоні, через індивідуальні історії жертв терору та репресій. Вона побудована на основі архівних документів, усних свідчень та історичних досліджень.

"Те, що було задумане і створене в рамках проєкту "Колишня в'язниця", є не лише сучасною виставкою, а й важливим внеском у збереження історичної пам'яті", – вважає заступник директора Державного історико-культурного заповідника в місті Острог Андрій Брижук, який побував на відкритті експозиції.

В музеї також наголошують, що головною метою виставки є збереження пам'яті про події, які відбувалися за стінами в'язниці, і нагадування відвідувачам про непрості сторінки історії цього місця.
