Masterpieces of folk creativity: a museum of authentic clothing was opened in Lviv

A private collection of authentic clothing and adornment was presented in a new museum on the territory of the Lviv Palace of Arts. As "Espresso" reports, the collection includes thousands of samples of Ukrainian folk art - towels, adornment, headdresses, embroideries and other items of clothing.

Ethnographer Roksolyana Shymchuk collected them for more than 30 years in various regions of our country. The museum has an audio guide available in four languages, and in the future they plan to digitize the collection, create a website, and hold temporary exhibitions.

"I got sick of collecting in my youth. At first it was shirts, then outfits, because I understood that full beauty is revealed when there are both adornment and headwear. When all this beauty reached a critical mass, there was such an inner need to show everything this is for the world," said the collector.

The ethnographer admits that she would very much like her museum to "become a drop in the cultural waterfall that will absorb Ukrainians and they will feel their native place and start being proud of it."

The exposition itself is divided by regions: Hutsulshchyna, Pokuttia (Horodenka, Snyatyn, Kolomyia), Bukovyna, Podillia, Lvivschyna, Volyn, Boykivschyna, Podniprovya and Left Bank Ukraine.

"I collect masterpieces of folk art, and therefore the choice of what to display in a permanent exhibition was very difficult. It was a terrible torment. The collection, like a child, I cannot display one thing and leave the other in a chest out of sight. My heart ached for each item. Later, I came to terms with , that I am not exhibiting entire sections yet: a Borshchiv children's shirt, a collection of Bukovyna patterns, etc.," says the gallerist.

Among the unique items presented for viewing are an authentic beaded festive kepthar of the beginning of the 20th century from Bukovyna, in which Oleg Psyuk of the Kalush Orchestra performed at Eurovision 2022, and Marichka's wedding outfit from the movie "Dovbush".

The museum will open its doors to visitors on February 19. It is located in the basement at 17 Kopernyka Street. On the first floor, there is an ethno-gallery, which presents modern designer items, household items, and jewelry by the artist herself.

For social groups of the population, as well as the military, entrance to the museum is free, author's tours are by appointment.

Приватну колекцію автентичного одягу та прикрас представили у новому музеї на території Львівського палацу мистецтв. Як повідомляє "Еспресо", колекція налічує тисячі зразків українського народного мистецтва – рушники, прикраси, головні убори, вишиванки та інші елементи одягу.

Етнографиня Роксоляна Шимчук збирала їх понад 30 років в різних регіонах нашої держави. У музеї доступний аудіогід чотирма мовами, а в майбутньому планують оцифрувати колекцію, створити вебсайт, проводити тимчасові виставки. 

"Я захворіла колекціонуванням ще у юності. Спочатку це були сорочки, потім строї, бо розуміла, що повна краса відкривається, коли є і прикраси, і головні убори. Коли вся ця краса досягнула критичної маси, то з’явилася така внутрішня потреба показати все це світові", – розповіла колекціонерка.

Етнографиня зізнається, що дуже хотіла б, аби її музей "став краплинкою в культурному водоспаді, який поглине українців та вони відчують своє рідне й почнуть цим пишатися".

Сама експозиція поділена за регіонами: Гуцульщина, Покуття (Городенківське, Снятинське, Коломийське), Буковина, Поділля, Львівщина, Волинь, Бойківщина, Подніпров’я та Лівобережна Україна. 

"Колекціоную шедеври народної творчості, а тому вибір, що виставляти в постійну експозицію, був дуже важкий. То страшні муки. Колекція, як дитина, не можу одне виставити, а інше лишити в скрині поза увагою. За кожну річ серце щеміло. Згодом змирилась, що цілі розділи поки не виставляю: борщівську дитячу сорочку, колекцію буковинських наміток тощо", – розповідає галеристка.

Серед унікальних речей, представлених для огляду, вишитий бісером автентичний святковий кептар початку ХХ століття з Буковини, у якому виступав Олег Псюк з гурту Kalush Orchestra на Євробаченні-2022, та весільний убір Марічки із фільму "Довбуш".

Для відвідувачів музей свої двері відкриє 19 лютого. Він розташований в підвальному приміщенні за адресою: вулиця Коперника, 17. На першому поверсі – етногалерея, де представлені сучасні дизайнерські речі, предмети побуту та прикраси авторства самої мисткині.

Для соціальних груп населення, а також військових, вхід до музею – безплатний, авторські екскурсії – за домовленістю.
