Until recently, most of the organizations of the city of Kropyvnytskyi with regional status kept the old Soviet names, but now such institutions began to be officially renamed to Central Ukrainian.
The former Kirovohrad Regional Museum of Local Lore in the city of Kropyvnytskyi received a new name - the Central Ukrainian Regional Museum of Local Lore. This was announced by the director of the museum, Borys Shevchenko, on his Facebook page.
"Friends, an important event has taken place in the history of the regional museum of local lore. Its name has changed. From now on, the Kirovohrad Regional Museum of Local Lore is called the Central Ukrainian Regional Museum of Local Lore," the post reads.
Despite the fact that the city of Kirovohrad was renamed to Kropyvnytskyi back in 2016, the region of which it is the center is still called Kirovohradska, as the replacement of this name requires a complex process of amending the Constitution. Accordingly, most of the organizations with regional status kept the old Soviet names until recently. But now such institutions began to be officially renamed Central Ukrainian.
In particular, at the end of April 2024, at a meeting of the commission of the Kirovohradska Regional Council on Education, Science, Culture, Tourism and Sports, the issue of de-Russification of the name of the Kirovohrad Regional Museum of Local Lore was considered.
The team proposed to change the name of the museum to "Central Ukrainian Regional Museum of Local Lore" Communal Institution, and in addition to change the old name of the branch "Historical-Architectural Reserve of the Rayevsky Family" to a new branch: "Historical-Architectural Reserve "Ascension of Cross Church".
The Standing Committee agreed to the proposed changes.
