The monument at the so-called resting place of the Moscow Tsar has been called an example of a related historical interpretation designed to legitimize the imperial presence in Ukraine.

As part of the decolonization of public space and the removal of symbols of Russian imperial ideology, a monument at the so-called resting place of Peter I was dismantled in Poltava. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications.

It is noted that the dismantling of the monument is being carried out in stages, in compliance with all the requirements of current legislation and scientific and methodological recommendations.

"Preliminarily, all elements of the monument underwent a technical inspection and professional assessment. Accompanying scientific documentation has been prepared. In addition, the dismantling is taking place in accordance with the principles of restoration dismantling, determined as a result of professional consultations. Specialists in the fields of architecture, restoration, history, local history and museum studies have been involved in the work. Individual elements that have artistic or historical value are marked, properly packaged and transferred for responsible storage to a museum institution," the message says.

As noted in the Poltava City Council, the monument was one of the markers of Russian imperial propaganda, which formed a distorted idea of ​​local history. In the future, a new object is planned to be installed at this location - in the historical center of Poltava, at the intersection of Spasskaya and Pylypa Orlyk streets - which will represent Ukrainian national values, dignity and a true historical vision.

An all-Ukrainian architectural competition is planned, as well as public discussions with the participation of community representatives, scientists, artists and other specialists.

As travels.in.ua reported, in February another monument to Peter I was removed from the territory of the State Historical and Cultural Reserve "Field of the Battle of Poltava". Earlier, the Ministry of Culture excluded 15 cultural heritage sites of Poltava from the State Register of Immovable Monuments of Ukraine.

В рамках деколонізації публічного простору та усунення символів російської імперської ідеології в Полтаві демонтували пам’ятник на так званому місці відпочинку Петра І. Про це повідомляє пресслужба Міністерства культури та стратегічних комунікацій.

Зазначається, що демонтаж пам’ятника здійснюється поетапно, з дотриманням усіх вимог чинного законодавства та науково-методичних рекомендацій.

"Попередньо усі елементи монумента пройшли технічне обстеження та фахову оцінку. Підготовлено супровідну наукову документацію. Крім того, розбирання відбувається відповідно до принципів реставраційного демонтажу, визначених у результаті професійних консультацій. До роботи залучено спеціалістів у галузях архітектури, реставрації, історії, краєзнавства та музейної справи. Окремі елементи, що мають художню чи історичну цінність, маркуються, належним чином пакуються та передаються на відповідальне зберігання до музейної установи", – йдеться у повідомленні.

Як зазначають у Полтавській міській раді, пам’ятник був одним із маркерів російської імперської пропаганди, що формував спотворене уявлення про місцеву історію. Надалі на цьому місці – в історичному центрі Полтави, на перехресті вулиць Спаської та Пилипа Орлика – планується встановлення нового об’єкта, який репрезентуватиме українські національні цінності, гідність та правдиве історичне бачення.

Заплановано оголошення всеукраїнського архітектурного конкурсу, а також проведення публічних обговорень за участі представників громади, науковців, митців та інших фахівців.

Як повідомляв travels.in.ua, що в лютому з території Державного історико-культурного заповідника "Поле Полтавської битви" прибрали інший пам'ятник Петру I. Раніше Мінкульт виключив із Державного реєстру нерухомих пам’яток України 15 об’єктів культурної спадщини Полтави.
