A sculpture of a character from a novel by Soviet propagandist Mykola Ostrovsky will complement the exposition of the Museum of Totalitarian Era Monumental Art in Sumy Oblast.

The monument to the Soviet literary hero Pavka Korchagin was dismantled in the city of Boiarka, Kyiv region, in accordance with the requirements of the law on decommunization. This was reported in the administration of the Boiarka Museum of Local Lore, on the territory of which the sculpture was temporarily located.

"Today we got rid of the Soviet "red" marker, which for a long time crossed out the true history of the city. So our legendary Boiarka will become a space for the creation of new symbols that will reflect the modern values ​​and identity of the city," said the director of the museum, Halyna Terpilovska.

Pavka Korchagin is the literary hero of Mykola Ostrovsky's novel "How the Steel Was Tempered", written in 1932 in the style of Soviet socialist realism. The main action of the novel takes place in Boiarka, which, because of this, was positioned by Soviet propaganda as a "city of Komsomol glory." The Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance included Pavka Korchagin in the list of persons subject to the law on decommunization.

The monument to Korchagin used to stand in front of the building of the Boiarka Secondary School No. 2, which is also mentioned in the novel, and was later moved to the territory of the Boiarka Museum of Local Lore. Now it will complement the exposition of the Museum of Totalitarian Era Monumental Art in Sumy Oblast.

"The last echo of the totalitarian regime of the USSR in the form of a monumental bronze work of Soviet heroism "Pavka Korchagin" is headed to the Communal Institution of the Sumy Regional Council "State Historical and Cultural Reserve in the City of Putivl", to its department - the Museum of pure heaven "Park of the Totalitarian Period" in the Spadshchansky Forest , where a significant collection of similar monuments of communist ideology has already been collected," the museum administration said.

A fragment of a narrow-gauge railway and commemorative signs "Boyarka-BAM" and "Komsomolets of the 20s" were also sent to the Putivl museum.

Пам'ятник радянському літературному герою Павці Корчагіну демонтували у місті Боярка на Київщині згідно з вимогами закону про декомунізацію. Про це повідомили в адміністрації Боярського краєзнавчого музею, на території якого тимчасово перебувала скульптура.

"Сьогодні ми позбулися радянського "червоного" маркера, який довгий час перекреслював істинну історію міста. Тож наша легендарна Боярка стане простором для створення нових символів, які відображатимуть сучасні цінності та ідентичність міста", – зазначила директора музею Галина Терпіловська.

Павка Корчагін – літературний герой роману Миколи Островського "Як гартувалася сталь", написаного у 1932 році у стилі радянського соцреалізму. Основна дія роману відбувається у Боярці, яку через це радянська пропаганда позиціонувала як "місто комсомольської слави". Український інститут національної пам'яті зарахував Павку Корчагіна до списку осіб, які підпадають під дію закону про декомунізацію.

Пам'ятник Корчагіну раніше стояв перед будівлею Боярської загальноосвітньої школи № 2, яка також згадується у романі, згодом був перенесений на територію Боярського краєзнавчого музею. Тепер він поповнить експозицію Музею монументального мистецтва тоталітарної епохи на Сумщині.

"Останній відголосок тоталітарного режиму СРСР у вигляді монументального бронзового витвору радянської героїки "Павка Корчагін" прямує до Комунального закладу Сумської обласної ради "Державний історико-культурний заповідник у місті Путивлі", в його відділ – Музей проcто неба "Парк тоталітарного періоду" у Спадщанському лісі, де вже зібрана значна колекція подібних пам'ятників комуністичної ідеології", – розповіли в адміністрації музею.

Також у путивльський музей відправили фрагмент вузькоколійки й пам'ятні знаки "Боярка-БАМ" та "Комсомольцям 20-х років".
