Four trucks with looted property from the Oleksiy Shovkunenko Kherson Art Museum and the Havzdinsky Art Gallery in Nova Kakhovka arrived in occupied Simferopol in Crimea.

Before the war, the collection of the Kherson Art Museum contained icons of the 18th-20th centuries, objects of Ukrainian art from the second half of the 19th - early 20th centuries, including a unique collection of works by Aivazovsky, Shibanov, Serebryakov, Shovkunenko, Pimonenko, Yablonska, Hlushchenko, Kryzhytskyi, Polenov, Konchalovskyi, works of Vrubel, a large collection of Andrienko-Nechitaylo. In addition, the funds contained works by Baltic artists, including paintings by Karlis Dabrais, a collection of Italian sculpture of the 18th century, masterpieces by the German artist August von Bayer, and the British Peter Lely.

Some of the paintings from Simferopol have already been identified. They recognized "Piquet on the bank of the river. Sunset" by the miniaturist Ivan Pokhitonov, "Houses at sunset" by Sokolov, "Landscape of Paris" by Mykhailo Andrienko-Nechitaylo, "Autumn time" by Georgy Kurnakov, "Gladioluses" by Leonid Chychkan, "Lanka" classic of the Transcarpathian school of painting Gavril Gluk.

The premises of the Kherson Art Museum were captured by the Russians on July 19, 2022. The museum met the occupation in the state of repair and restoration works. For almost 8 months, the team was in fear for the fate of the building and the collection and hoped that the unrepresentative state of repair of the architectural monument and the absence of exhibits in the halls would not attract the attention of representatives of the "Russian measure".

В колекції Херсонського художнього музею до війни перебували ікони XVIII-XX століть, предмети українського мистецтва другої половини XIX - початку XX століття, серед яких унікальна колекція робіт Айвазовського, Шибанова, Серебрякова, Шовкуненка, Пімоненка, Яблонської, Глущенка, Крижицького, Полєнова, Кончаловського, роботи Врубеля, велика колекція Андрієнка-Нечитайла. Крім того, у фондах перебували роботи художників Балтії, серед яких картини Карліса Дабрайса, колекція італійської скульптури XVIII століття, шедеври німецього худохника Августа фон Байера, британця Пітера Лелі.

Частину картин по фото із Сімферополя вже ідентифікували. Впізнали "Пікет на березі річки. Захід сонця" художника-мініатюриста Івана Похитонова, "Хати на заході сонця" Соколова, "Пейзаж Парижа" Михайла Андрієнка-Нечитайла, "Осіння пора" Георгія Курнакова, "Гладіолуси" Леоніда Чичкана, "Ланка" класика закарпатської школи живопису Гаврила Глюка.

Приміщення Херсонського художнього музею було захоплено росіянами 19 липня 2022 року. Окупацію музей зустрів у стані проведення ремонтно-реставраційних робіт. 8 місяців колектив перебував в страху за долю будівлі та колекції і сподівався, що нерепрезентативний ремонтний стан пам'ятника архітектури та відсутність у залах експонатів не приверне увагу представників "руського міру".
