Inclusive Travels identified the most affordable museums in Ukraine

Detailed information on the conditions of accessibility of about 400 museums of Ukraine was collected in 4 months by the project "Inclusive Travels in Ukraine: accessibility of museums of Ukraine", which is implemented with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation. The analysis of the received data allowed the project experts to identify the 5 most accessible museums of Ukraine.

    1. National Holodomor Henocide Museum (Kyiv).
    2. NKMMK "Art Arsenal" (Kyiv).
    3. National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War (Kyiv).
    4. Museum "Formation of the Ukrainian Nation" (Kyiv).
    5. Kyiv Museum of History (Kyiv).

All of these museums have, at a minimum, a barrier-free contiguous area and entrance, accessible interior spaces, adapted exhibits, and inclusive restrooms. Their positions in the list are determined by taking into account the quality of the basic accessibility elements and the number of additional elements. At the same time, the presented list is not a formal rating, as it is based on monitoring information and not on the results of an expert audit.

The research methodology was developed by the ORFO universal design studio with the participation of the Chernivtsi association "Zakhyst". The electronic questionnaire for assessing the level of accessibility of the museum facility prepared by them became the main monitoring tool, which was carried out in several stages. At the first stage, an e-mail was sent to the addresses of 1,500 museums of Ukraine with a request to fill out a questionnaire, as well as an additional telephone survey of most of them. At the second stage, more than 30 volunteers monitored about 100 important museums in different regions of Ukraine, from which, for one reason or another, the project did not receive completed questionnaires.

It is worth noting that the collection of information at these stages was unqualified, that is, it did not require professional evaluations, but only the recording of factual data: the presence/absence of certain elements, measured dimensions and angles, photo fixation. A professional audit of accessibility was carried out by experts using the methodology developed by them in 10 museums. Experts also analyzed monitoring data received from museums and volunteers to summarize statistics and determine the most accessible museums of Ukraine.

More details on the monitoring results will soon be available on the website https://travels.in.ua, which is currently under development. It will contain information about museums in all regions of Ukraine with a detailed description of the conditions for receiving visitors from groups with reduced mobility at each object, as well as a simple and convenient system for their search and selection based on various signs of inclusiveness and other parameters. The collection of information will also continue, so the list of the most accessible museums may change to take into account those that provide information about themselves in the future.

The goal of the project is to inform an interested audience about which museum institutions in Ukraine are already ready to receive different categories of visitors, which are already working in this direction, and which are still not sufficiently accessible.

Детальну інформацію про умови доступності близько 400 музеїв України зібрав за 4 місяці проєкт "Inclusive Travels in Ukraine: доступність музеїв України", що реалізується за підтримки Українського культурного фонду. Аналіз отриманих даних дозволив експертам проєкту визначити 5 найдоступніших музеїв України.

1. Національний музей Голодомору-геноциду (Київ).

2. НКММК "Мистецький арсенал" (Київ).

3. Національний музей історії України у Другій світовій війні (Київ).

4. Музей "Становлення української нації" (Київ).

5. Музей історії Києва (Київ).

Усі ці музеї, щонайменше, мають безбар'єрну прилеглу територію і вхід, доступні внутрішні простори, адаптовані експозиції та інклюзивні вбиральні. Їхні позиції у списку визначені з урахуванням якості базових елементів доступності та кількості додаткових елементів. При цьому представлений список не є формальним рейтингом, оскільки базується на моніторинговій інформації, а не на результатах експертного аудиту.

Методика дослідження була розроблена студією універсального дизайну ORFO за участі ГО Чернівецьке об'єднання "Захист". Підготовлена ними електронна анкета оцінки рівня доступності музейного закладу стала головним інструментом моніторингу, який здійснювався у кілька етапів. На першому етапі була здійснена e-mail розсилка листів на адреси 1500 музеїв України з проханням заповнити анкету, а також додаткове телефонне опитування більшості з них. На другому етапі понад 30 волонтерів провели моніторинг близько 100 важливих музеїв у різних регіонах України, від яких, з тих чи інших причин, проєкт не отримав заповнених анкет.

Варто відзначити, що збирання інформації на цих етапах було некваліфікованим, тобто не вимагало фахових оцінок, а лише фіксації фактичних даних: наявності/відсутності тих чи інших елементів, вимірюваних розмірів та кутів, фотофіксації. Фаховий аудит доступності був здійснений експертами за розробленою ними методикою в 10 музеях. Також фахівці проаналізували моніторингові дані, отримані від музеїв і волонтерів, для узагальнення статистики та визначення найдоступніших музеїв України.

Він міститиме інформацію про музеї в усіх регіонах України з детальним описом умов для прийому відвідувачів з числа маломобільних груп на кожному об'єкті, а також просту і зручну систему їх пошуку та відбору за різними ознаками інклюзивності та іншими параметрами. Збір інформації також триватиме, тож список найдоступніших музеїв може змінитися з урахуванням тих, що нададуть інформацію про себе надалі.

Метою проєкту є інформування зацікавленої аудиторії щодо того, які саме музейні заклади в Україні вже сьогодні готові до прийому різних категорій відвідувачів, які вже працюють в цьому напрямку, а які поки що залишаються недостатньо доступними.
