The historical center of Odesa was destroyed by the Russian attack

At least 25 architectural monuments in the center of Odesa were damaged as a result of a terrorist attack by Russians on the night of July 23. As reported by the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Russia targeted the historic center of the city, which is protected by UNESCO.

"At least 44 buildings have been damaged, 25 of which are architectural monuments. This is another attempt to kill peaceful Ukrainians, to erase our history and heritage of world importance," the message said.

Among the architectural monuments of the 19th and 20th centuries that were damaged by shelling: Chizhevych's house, Papudova's house, Zabludovsky's house, Gagarin's house, Janusz's house, Zhdanova's house, Russell del Turco's house, Massa's house, Manuk Bey's mansion, Kovalevsky's house, Porro's house, Mashevsky's house and others.

The Savior and Transfiguration Cathedral, restored in 2002-2007, located in the center of Odesa, suffered significant destruction.

"The occupiers, under the guise of Orthodoxy, destroyed the world-famous Savior and Transfiguration Cathedral. Just as the "Soviets" once did, the Russian Federation is once again destroying this building," Odesa OVA noted on this occasion.

UNESCO condemned the attacks on the historic center of Odesa, as a result of which buildings of cultural importance were damaged, and called for an end to attacks on cultural values protected by international normative documents.

It will be recalled that at the beginning of 2023, UNESCO included the historical center of Odesa in the list of world heritage sites under threat of destruction.

Щонайменше 25 пам'яток архітектури в центрі Одеси зазнали пошкоджень внаслідок терористичної атаки росіян у ніч на 23 липня. Як повідомляє Одеська обласна військова адміністрація, Росія прицільно вдарила по історичному центру міста, що знаходиться під захистом ЮНЕСКО.

"Мінімум 44 будівлі пошкоджені, 25 з яких – пам'ятки архітектури. Це чергова спроба вбити мирних українців, стерти нашу історію та спадщину світового значення", – сказано у повідомленні. 

Серед архітектурних пам'яток XIX-XX століть, що постраждали від обстрілу: будинок Чижевича, будинок Папудової, будинок Заблудовського, будинок Гагаріна, будинок Януша, будинок Жданової, будинок Рассель дель Турко, будинок Масса, особняк Манук-Бея, будинок Ковалевського, будинок Порро, будинок Машевського та інші.

Значних руйнувань зазнав Спасо-Преображенський кафедральний собор, відновлений у 2002-2007 роках, що розташований у центрі Одеси. 

"Окупанти, прикриваючись православ'ям, зруйнували відомий на весь світ Спасо-Преображенський кафедральний собор. Як "совєти" колись, так РФ сьогодні вкотре знищує цю будівлю", – зазначили з цього приводу в Одеській ОВА.

ЮНЕСКО засудило атаки на історичний центр Одеси, внаслідок яких постраждали будівлі культурного значення, та закликало припинити напади на культурні цінності, захищені міжнародними нормативними документами.

Нагадаємо, що на початку 2023 року ЮНЕСКО включило історичний центр Одеси до переліку об'єктів світової спадщини, що перебувають під загрозою знищення.
