On the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, December 6, a monument to the Hero of Ukraine, Oleksandr Matsiyevskyi, was unveiled in Kyiv.
The monument was installed on the territory of the National Historical and Architectural Museum "Kyiv Fortress".
"We were in a great hurry to open on this particular date. We are very proud that the Symbol of Invincibility was opened here. This is very important! The museum is visited by a lot of people, including military personnel, students, children, and the elderly. It is very important that we we remembered at what price this victory was given to us," said the general director of NIAM "Kyiv Fortress" Oksana Novikova-Vyhran.
Relatives of the deceased hero were present at the opening: mother Paraska Matsiyevska-Demchuk and wife Yuliya Matsiyevska. Also among the participants of the event were the founder of the project and benefactor Oleksandr Vintselevych, general director of NIAM "Kyiv Fortress" Oksana Novikova-Vyhran, sculptors Oleh Tsos and Albina Safonova.
The authors of the monument said that they worked on the project for more than two months. To create an authentic sculpture, they used plasticine, clay, silicone and computer technology. The sculpture is an almost exact copy of the warrior. Artist-sculptor Tsos noted that it was important for them to convey the view of the fallen hero.
Reference: Oleksandr Matsiyevskyi was captured by the Russians near the city of Soledar, Donetsk region, and was shot by them for saying "Glory to Ukraine". The first monument to the Hero in Ukraine was erected the other day in the hometown of the Hero, in the city of Nizhyn.
