Every year on the third Wednesday of January, the world celebrates Museum Selfie Day, when you can come to any museum for free and take a picture with your favorite exhibit. This year, the date of the flash mob falls on January 18.

Kherson Regional Art Museum named Oleksiy Shovkunenko called on all its visitors to support it on this day, despite the difficult circumstances that have arisen due to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

"I really want to invite you all to the museum, tell you the password for the entrance, admire the lights in the eyes of the visitors who choose which painting or sculpture to take a photo with... But the art museum was looted by the occupiers, the halls are closed, because the building began to be restored, and in general in Kherson it's very dangerous now... We cannot hold a full-fledged flash mob, even offer to take a selfie against the background of our exhibit No. 1 - the museum building, as it was during the covid quarantine, we do not offer it for safety reasons," the museum staff wrote on their Facebook page.

So the Kherson Art Museum asks everyone to participate in the International Museum Selfie Day in an affordable way. Namely, search your photo archives for selfies from past years, taken at the Art Museum, and post them on social networks (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) on January 18 with the hashtags #MuseumSelfie #MuseumSelfieDay2023 #art_museum_ks

"Museum Selfie Day 2023 will be a great opportunity to express your support for the looted museum. Your selfies taken in the museum before the start of the full-scale war, before the occupation of Kherson, are historical documents. We will share them with the museum and the whole world! We do not offer gifts this year, but we promise to collect all your photos on the museum pages! Your support is now more important to us than ever!

P.S. In the photo - a bust of a young girl (Innocence) by the Florentine sculptor Emilio Fiaschi (1858-1941), who became the "face" of Museum Selfie Day in the Kherson Art Museum, was among the works of art that were taken away by the Russian occupiers under the guise of "evacuation" . The location of the sculpture is currently unknown.

"Дуже хочеться запросити вас всіх до музею, повідомити пароль для входу, милуватися вогниками в очах відвідувачів, які обирають, біля якої картини чи скульптури сфотографуватися... Але художній музей пограбований окупантами, зали закриті, бо будівлю почали реставрувати, і взагалі в Херсоні зараз дуже небезпечно... Нехай провести повноцінний флешмоб ми не можемо, навіть запропонувати зробити селфі на фоні нашого експонату №1 - музейної будівлі, як це було під час ковідного карантину, не пропонуємо у цілях безпеки", - написали музейники на своїй сторінці в Facebook.

Тож херсонський художній музей просить всіх долучитися до Міжнародного Дня музейних селфі в доступний спосіб. А саме - пошукати у себе в фотоархівах селфі минулих років, зроблені в Художньому музеї, і 18 січня запостити їх у соцмережах (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) з хештегами #MuseumSelfie #MuseumSelfieDay2023 #art_museum_ks

P.S. На фото - бюст молодої дівчини (Невінність) флорентійського скульптора Еміліо Фіаскі (Фіасчі) (1858-1941), який став “обличчям” Museum Selfie Day в Херсонському художньому музеї, опинився серед творів мистецтва, які були вивезені російськими окупантами під виглядом "евакуації". Наразі місцезнаходження скульптури невідомо.
