Theatrical action will take place every Saturday with the first dusk in the pedestrian zone of the city.
The traditional theatrical performance "Light of Panska Street", which was loved by Chernivtsi and guests of the city, returns after a forced break of several months. This is reported by the Department of Socio-Economic Development and Strategic Planning of the Chernivtsi City Council.
"Already this Saturday, April 1, at 8:00 p.m., we are resuming the "Light of Panska Street" event. We invite everyone to come to the beginning of Olha Kobylyanska Street on Saturday evening and see the interesting city tradition of lighting the city's main lantern," the message said.
The department reminds that the lantern event takes place in Chernivtsi every Saturday with the first dusk.
The historical tradition of lighting lanterns was restored in Chernivtsi in 2020. According to the ritual, which has historical roots, authentically dressed lantern-bearers leave the Town Hall with a ladder in their hands. After passing through the pedestrian street of Kobylyanska (former Panska), they light a fire in a forged lantern, thereby signaling that it is time to turn on the lights on the entire street.
