Pharmacy-museum "Under the star" opened in Sambir

A new exposition dedicated to the history of medicine of Boykivshchyna was opened in two halls of the Sambir Historical and Ethnographic Museum "Boykivshchyna". As reported by the press service of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, more than 810 unique exhibits are presented here.

The exhibition reproduces the interior of the historical pharmacy "Under the Star", which until recently was located in the center of Sambir and where master of pharmacy Yan Lep'iankevich lived with his family. The pharmacy functioned both under the Soviet government and in independent Ukraine. In 2020, the pharmacy was closed, and the old furniture and inventory were transferred to the "Boykivshchyna" museum.

In the first hall of the new museum, the interior of a classic pharmacy of the XIX-XX centuries is recreated. There are cabinets and showcases made of oak, pine and ash, which display glass and ceramic containers - flasks, flasks, in which medicine was previously stored. In the second hall, the interior of the witch doctor's room was recreated. There are furniture typical of rural dwellings of that time, icons, embroidery, ceramic dishes, dried herbs, decoctions, etc.

As she said during the opening of the exposition, Olga Bilas, acting director of the "Boykivshchyna" Museum, the first mentions of pharmacies in Sambirshchyna date back to the middle of the 16th century.

"Once upon a time, pharmacy began with the people, people from generation to generation passed on their experience about plants and their medicinal properties. And the pharmacy itself was born a little later. And every pharmacist tried to decorate his pharmacy in order to attract customers. While creating the exposition, we tried to show how the residents of mountain villages were treated for fights, and how they visited healers and herbalists," said Olga Bilas.

The exhibits of the pharmacy-museum "Under the star" were collected by the employees of the "Boykivshchyna" Museum, as well as students of the Sambir Medical College.

Нову експозицію, присвячену історії медицини Бойківщини, відкрили у двох залах Самбірського історико-етнографічного музею "Бойківщина". Як повідомляє персслужба Львівської обласної військової адміністріції, тут представлено понад 810 унікальних експонатів.

В експозиції відтворено інтер'єр історичної аптеки "Під зіркою", що донедавна розташовувалася у центрі Самбора і де мешкав магістр фармації Ян Лепʼянкевич з родиною. Аптека функціонувала і за радянської влади, і в незалежній Україні. У 2020 році аптеку закрили, а старовинні меблі та інвентар передали музею "Бойківщина". 

У першій залі нового музею відтворено інтер’єр класичної аптеки XIX-XX століть. Тут є шафи та вітрини з дуба, сосни та ясена, в яких представлені скляні й керамічні ємності – колби, штангласи, у яких раніше зберігали ліки. У другій залі відтворили інтер’єр кімнати знахарки. Тут розміщені меблі, характерні для сільського помешкання того часу, ікони, вишивка, керамічний посуд, сушені трави, відвари тощо.

Як розповіла під час відкриття експозиції в.о. директорки Музею "Бойківщина" Ольга Білас, перші згадки про аптеки на Самбірщині датуються серединою XVI століття. 

"Колись фармація починалась з народу, люди з покоління в покоління передавали досвід про рослини, про їхні лікувальні властивості. А вже сама аптекарська справа зародилась трохи пізніше. І кожен аптекар намагався прикрасити свою аптеку для того, щоб привабити покупців. Створюючи експозицію, ми намагалися показати, як лікувалися бойки, жителі гірських сіл, і як вони відвідували знахарів та травників", – зазначила Ольга Білас.

Експонати аптеки-музею "Під зіркою" зібрали працівники Музею "Бойківщина", а також студенти Самбірського медичного коледжу.
