Visitor access to the top of the main bell tower of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra has been restricted for more than 30 years due to the state of emergency of the building.

On November 22, the ceremonial opening of full access to the Great Lavra bell tower of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra will take place after reconstruction. According to the administration of the National Reserve "Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra", for the first time in 30 years, the main visual symbol of Kyiv will be available for visiting by residents of Kyiv and guests of the city.

"For centuries, the Lavra has been an important educational and value center of Ukraine. And now significant historical changes are taking place in the national reserve - the Lavra is returning to Ukraine, and Ukrainians are returning to the Lavra," the administration noted.

The Great Lavra bell tower is one of the visual symbols of Kyiv. Built on the high right bank of the Dnieper, it has long been the first landmark for travelers heading to Kyiv. The bell tower offers a majestic view of the picturesque Dnipro. In the 19th century travelers testified that in clear weather, from the top tier of the Lavra bell tower, Kozelets, Pereyaslav, Vasylkiv and the surrounding area can be seen from the telescope at a distance of at least 150 kilometers.

Excursions to the highest point of the Great Lavra bell tower were conducted until the 1990s. Until recently, only the lower tiers of the tower were accessible for visitors.

It is noted that the implementation of the reconstruction of the upper tiers of the Great Lavra bell tower took place with the support of the Work.ua company. The last large-scale repair and restoration works were carried out here in 2011–2012.

"Лавра сторіччями була важливим просвітницьким та ціннісним центром України. І нині в національному заповіднику відбуваються вагомі історичні зміни – лавра повертається в Україну, а українці повертаються у лавру", – зазначили в адміністрації.

Велика лаврська дзвіниця – один з візуальних символів Києва. Побудована на правому високому березі Дніпра, вона здавна була першим орієнтиром для подорожуючих, що прямували до Києва. З дзвіниці відкривається величний краєвид на мальовничий Дніпро. У ХІХ ст. мандрівники свідчили, що за ясної погоди з далекоглядної труби можна бачити з верхнього ярусу лаврської дзвіниці Козелець, Переяслав, Васильків й околиці на відстані щонайменше 150 кілометрів.

Екскурсії на найвищу точку Великої лаврської дзвіниці проводили до 1990-х років. До останнього часу для відвідування були доступні лише нижні яруси вежі.

Зазначається, що реалізація реконструкції верхніх ярусів Великої лаврської дзвіниці відбулася за підтримки компанії Work.ua. Востаннє масштабні ремонтно-реставраційні роботи тут проводили у 2011–2012 роках.
