An unusual tree with 15 trunks, growing on the territory of the Krolevets Center for Extracurricular Education, attracts tourists every year during the days of its abundant flowering and fruiting.

A unique apple tree colony, over 220 years old, has bloomed in a garden on the territory of the former estate of the princes Meshchersky in the city of Krolevets, Sumy region, where the city's Extracurricular Education Center is now located. This was announced by the mayor of Krolevets, Viktor Lekhman, on his Facebook page.

"Every year we wait with trepidation for this moment - and it has come! Our unique, inimitable miracle apple tree has blossomed - a symbol of life, strength and beauty of the Krolevech region. One of the seven natural wonders of Ukraine, the winner of the "Best Tree of Europe" competition - has once again been covered with delicate flowers, giving everyone hope and inspiration," - said Viktor Lekhman.

The uniqueness of this apple tree lies in the fact that it grows not like an ordinary tree with one trunk, but like a bush, rooting its branches. Its mother trunk has long died, but the life of the plant continues - new shoots form more than 15 trunks on 18 acres of land.

"Such a phenomenon is atypical for apple trees, and that is why the Krolevets apple tree colony is a real natural phenomenon. Every year it pleases the eye with its blossoms and continues to bear fruit, symbolizing the power of nature and its incredible ability to renew," say the specialists of the Krolevets City Council's Center for Extracurricular Education, who take care of the tree.

It is worth noting that in 2023, the botanical monument of national importance "Apple Tree Colony" took third place in the online vote for the European Tree of the Year.

Унікальна яблуня-колонія віком понад 220 років розцвіла в саду на території колишньої садиби князів Мещерських у місті Кролевець Сумської області, де зараз розташовується міський Центр позашкільної освіти. Про це повідомив міський голова Кролевця Віктор Лехман на власній сторінці у Facebook.

"Щороку ми з трепетом чекаємо на цю мить – і вона настала! Розквітла наша унікальна, неповторна диво-яблуня – символ життя, сили та краси Кролевеччини. Одне з семи природних чудес України, призер конкурсу "Краще дерево Європи" – знову вкрилося ніжними квітами, даруючи всім надію й натхнення", – зазначив Віктор Лехман.

Унікальність цієї яблуні полягає у тому, що вона росте не як звичайне дерево з одним стовбуром, а наче кущ, укорінюючи свої гілки. Її материнський стовбур давно відмер, але життя рослини триває – нові пагони формують понад 15 стовбурів на 18 сотках землі.

"Таке явище нетипове для яблунь, і саме тому кролевецька яблуня-колонія є справжнім природним феноменом. Вона щороку радує око цвітом та продовжує давати плоди, символізуючі силу природи та її неймовірну здатність до оновлення", – зазначають фахівці Центру позашкільної освіти Кролевецької міської ради, які опікуються деревом.

Варто відзначити, що 2023 року ботанічна пам’ятка природи загальнодержавного значення "Яблуня-колонія" посіла третє місце в онлайн-голосуванні за Європейське дерево року.
