Kontraktova Square - the central square of the Lower Town, on the site of which was the main market of ancient Kyiv.

In the 13th-18th centuries it was the administrative center of the city and the place where the Kontrakts Fairs were held, here was the building of the Kyiv Magistrate with the Viyt Tower, from which decisions of the city authorities were announced (it was built in 1714, burned down in 1812).

The square also houses the Contract House (1815-1817), which served as a venue for concerts and balls.

The tall bell tower of the Greek Church of Saint Catherine (1741), restored in the 1970s, stands out in the ensemble of Kontraktova Square, the premises of which now belong to the National Bank of Ukraine.
