Храм на честь святих мучениць Віри, Надії, Любові та матері їхньої Софії споруджено в 2002 році з ініціативи міської влади та жіночої релігійної громади Полтави.

Автор проєкту - заслужений художник України архітектор Анатолій Чорнощоков. Всередині храму земне житло Ісуса Христа відокремлює на всю висоту церкви різьблений іконостас, виконаний майстрами львівської фірми "Сяйво". Деякі ікони привезені із Почаївської Лаври.

П'ятибанний храм у стилі класицизму увінчує центральний п'ятиметровий хрест. Декоративні бані містять сім дзвонів. Усі вони відлиті на Полтавському тепловозоремонтному заводі. Найпотужніший із них, вагою 271 кілограм, носить ім'я "Полтава".
