General information about Weeping Widow House (Arshavsky Mansion) (Kyiv)
The Art Nouveau mansion (Weeping Widow House) was built in 1907 by architect Eduard-Ferdinand Bradtman by order of Serhiy Arshavsky, a Poltava merchant of the 2nd guild.
In 1918, the building was nationalized, and to this day it houses government structures.
The facade is decorated with a sad female face, which drips water during the rain, and it seems that the mask is crying. Hence the popular name of the mansion - "Weeping Widow House".
Особняк у стилі модерн (Будинок плачучої вдови) був збудований у 1907 році архітектором Едуардом-Фердинандом Брадтманом на замовлення полтавського купця 2-ї гільдії Сергія Аршавського.
В 1918 році будівля була націоналізована, донині в ній розміщуються урядові структури.
Фасад прикрашає сумне жіноче обличчя, яким під час дощу стікає вода, і здається, що маска плаче. Звідси народна назва особняка - "Будинок плачучої вдови".
