General information about Saint Oleksandr's Cathedral (Kyiv)
The Cathedral of Saint Oleksandr is the oldest surviving Catholic shrine in Kyiv.
It was built in the style of classicism according to the project of the architect Lyudvik Stanzani at the expense of the Polish community of the city, headed by Count Potocki in 1842.
It is located on the south side of Volodymyrska Hill, at the corner of Kostelna and Tryochsvyatitelska streets.
In Soviet times, the building of the Oleksandr Church was used as a planetarium, then as a museum of atheism. In 1990, the Church of Saint Oleksandr was returned to the Roman Catholic community.
In 2001, Pope John Paul II visited the Oleksandr Church during his visit to Kyiv. On June 6, 2021, the church was elevated to the status of a Cathedral.
Катедральний собор Святого Олександра - найстаріша католицька святиня Києва, що збереглася.
Збудований в стилі класицизму за проєктом архітектора Людвіка Станзані коштом польської громади міста на чолі з графом Потоцьким в 1842 році.
Розташований на південному боці Володимирської гірки, на розі вулиць Костельна та Трьохсвятительська.
За радянських часів будівля Олександрівського костелу використовувалася як планетарій, потім як музей атеїзму. В 1990 році костел Святого Олександра повернуто Римо-католицькій громаді.
В 2001 році Олександрівський костел відвідав папа Іоанн Павло ІІ під час свого візиту до Києва. 6 червня 2021 року костел був піднесений до статусу Катедрального Собору.
