General information about Cathedral Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Mykolaiv)
The Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is the oldest church in Mykolaiv. It was built in 1800 with donations from Mykolaiv merchants, so it was called the Old Merchant Church.
The 38-meter-high classicist building has powerful walls made of hewn tortoiseshell stone. Later, two side altars were added, the church became the city diocesan cathedral. In 1876, a belfry was built, a huge bell weighing more than 8 tons was installed in it.
The cathedral was closed in 1938, the premises housed the officers' garrison house. Since 1992, the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin has been operating again. A new iconostasis with its original appearance was installed.
Кафедральний Собор Різдва Пресвятої Богородиці - найстаріший храм Миколаєва. Побудований у 1800 році на пожертвування миколаївських купців, тому його називали Старокупецькою церквою.
Будівля в стилі класицизму висотою 38 метрів має потужні стіни з тесаного каменю-черепашника. Пізніше були прибудовані два бокові вівтарі, храм став міським єпархіальним собором. У 1876 році було збудовано дзвіницю, у ній встановлено величезний дзвін вагою понад 8 тон.
Собор було закрито в 1938 році, в приміщенні розміщувався гарнізонний будинок офіцерів. З 1992 року собор Різдва Богородиці знову діє. Встановлено новий іконостас, що має первісний вигляд.
