The city of Horodok on the Smotrych River is located 50 kilometers northwest of Khmelnytskyi. The Trojan Val passes here.
According to one version, the city was founded in 1362, although it was first mentioned at the end of the 15th century, when it belonged to the Polish magnates of Novodvorsk. The next owners were General Herburt, the nobleman Svirch, the Zamoyskyi magnates, Baron Heysmar, the Vinohradskyi family.
In 1653, Cossack troops captured and destroyed Horodok Castle. In 1702, the rebel units of Fedir Shpak operated in the Horodok area. In 1786, the city received Magdeburg law. During this period, the church of Saint Stanislav was built, which has survived to this day in a rebuilt form.
