The ancient Pokuttian village of Bortnyky is located 40 kilometers southeast of Ivano-Frankivsk city, 10 kilometers south of the former district center of Tlumach. It is administratively part of the Ivano-Frankivsk district.
It was first mentioned in 1437 as royal property. The name is probably related to the main occupation of local residents – bortnytstvo (an ancient form of beekeeping).
Chestnut Alley on the northern edge of the village is a botanical landmark of local importance.
