Assumption of Blessed Virgin Cathedral, Chernivtsi

The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is the first stone Greek-Catholic church in Chernivtsi.

In Austrian times, it was called the Ruska Church (that is, Ruthenian - Ukrainian). The street leading to the cathedral from the main square is also called Ruska.

The Church of the Assumption in Empire style was built on the initiative of a wealthy citizen Thaddeus Turkul for the Greek Catholics of Chernivtsi, consecrated in honor of Saint Thaddeus. In the 1930s, the church was rebuilt in the Baroque style according to the project of the architect Volodymyr Zalozetsky and rededicated in honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

A luxurious carved iconostasis created by Italian masters has been preserved.

Кафедральний Собор Успіння Пресвятої Богородиці - перший у Чернівцях кам'яний греко-католицький храм.

За австрійських часів називався Руською церквою (тобто, русинською - українською). Вулиця, що веде до собору від головної площі,  також називається Руською.

Успенський храм у стилі ампір споруджено з ініціативи заможного городянина Тадея Туркула для греко-католиків Чернівців, освячено на честь Святого Тадея. В 1930-х роках церква була перебудована в стилі бароко за проєктом архітектора Володимира Залозецького й переосвячена на честь Успіння Пресвятої Богородиці.

Зберігся розкішний різьблений іконостас, створений італійськими майстрами.

В радянські часи будівля Собору Успіння Пресвятої Богородиці використовувалася під склад хімікатів.
