In the post-war years, it was converted into an officers' house.

Saint Michael's Church

Temple

The Church of Saint Archangel Michael in Kysylyn was built in 1777 on the site of the wooden church of the same name, known since 1645.

According to one version, the temple was originally an Arian temple, which led to its uncharacteristic squat architecture in the Baroque style. The walls of the building are sometimes more than one and a half meters thick. Above the intersection rises a two-level tower on a wide base, crowned with a decorative spire. The facade has a rich architectural decoration. Icons of the 17th century were preserved in the iconostasis of 1905. The building is surrounded by a brick fence with a massive belfry of an unusual shape.

Now the Saint Michael Church belongs to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

Zahorivsky Monastery

Historic area , Temple , Architecture

The Zahorivsky monastery near Lokachi is one of the oldest in Volyn.

According to legend, it was founded by Kyiv-Pechersk monks who escaped from the Mongol-Tatar invasion. Probably, the original red brick temple was built then, which is preserved at the base of the monastery complex. The first mention of the Zahorivsky monastery is found in documents in 1492.

The complex was completed during the 16th and 17th centuries under the Zahorovsky and Chatsky nobles. After 1719, the Orthodox monastery adopted the union, then became Catholic, but returned to Orthodoxy in 1824. The main church of the Nativity of the Holy Virgin in the baroque style was built in the 18th century.

In 1943, 44 UPA fighters under the command of Andriy Martsenyuk (Bereza) held a heroic defense against the German-fascist troops in the Zahorivsky monastery. Since then, the monastery buildings have been in ruins.
