Luzhany

The village of Luzhany on the banks of the Prut River is located 10 kilometers from Chernivtsi in the direction of Kolomyia.

It was first mentioned in the 15th century as the property of the landowner Vranych, which passed to the boyar Fedir Vitold. The new owner built the Church of the Assumption in the village, which is now the oldest in Bukovyna (medieval frescoes have been preserved in the interior).

In the 18th century, the village belonged to Yordan Luka, from where the name Lukany came from, which was later transformed into Luzhany.

Development began at the end of the 19th century, when the Chernivtsi-Lviv railway was laid through the village.
