Starobesheve

The village of Starobesheve on the Kalmius River is located 40 kilometers south of Donetsk.

It was founded in 1779 by Greeks who moved from the Crimean village of Beshev ("Besh ev" in Tatar - five houses). The tsarist government exempted immigrants from taxes for 10 years and provided other benefits. In 1780, a stone church was built (not preserved).

In 1930, the country's first women's tractor brigade was created in Starobesheve, led by the famous percussionist Pasha Anhelina (museum opened).

Below Starobesheve, at the confluence of the Kamyshevakha River with the Kalmius River, is the site of the battle of the Siversky Prince Ihor with the Polovtsy on the Kayala (Kalmius) River ...
