The small village Mashyne is located in the valley of the river Kacha. Known since the early XIX century as Tatarkoy, but probably existed before. It was renamed Mashyne in 1945 after the forced deportation of Crimean Tatars by Soviet occupiers from Crimea to Central Asia.
From here the routes to the settlements of Keys-Kermen and Tepe-Kermen begin.
Kyz-Kermen
Historic area , Castle / fortress
The mound of the early medieval settlement of Kyz-Kermen ("maiden fortress") on the flat top of the table mountain of the same name above the village of Mashyne, next to the ruins of Tepe-Kermen.
It arose in the 5th century, later it was a relatively large city.
The remains of the defensive wall and the foundations of the buildings have been preserved. There are no cave buildings.
Tepe-Kermen
Historic area , Castle / fortress
The fortified cave settlement of Tepe-Kermen ("mountain fortress") is located on a mountain plateau above the Kacha River near the Kiz-Kermen plateau near the village of Mashyne.
Probably founded in the early Middle Ages. In the 8th-14th centuries, icon worshipers expelled from Byzantium during the era of iconoclasm lived here. The cave church with columns is located in the northeastern part of the plateau. 250 caves were explored: temples, casemates, granaries, cattle sheds, etc.
