Oleksandriia

Oleksandriia is a large industrial city in the southern part of Ukraine, between Kropyvnytskyi and Kremenchuk. It is a city of the regional subordination of the Kirovohrad region, the center of the Oleksandriia territorial hromada.

In the 18th century, a Cossack winter camp appeared here, which in 1754 received the status of the settlement of Usivka (later Becheya, Oleksandriysk).

The historical center, where the fortress with a military garrison was located, is the confluence of the Berezivka River with Ingulets (now a city park).

Development in Soviet times was connected with the construction of large industrial enterprises, thanks to which Oleksandriia became a city of machine builders and miners. Until recently, lignite was actively mined here by the quarry method (the flooded coal cuts are now "graveyards of excavators").

During the years of Soviet rule, all the churches in the city were destroyed, there are very few architectural monuments.
