The ancient village of Kopachiv near the Serpent's Shafts above the Stuhna River is located south of Kyiv, between Obukhiv and Vasylkiv.

Since 1150, the ancient Rus fortress of Tumash has been mentioned, probably founded in 988 by the Kiev prince Volodymyr the Great. According to one of the versions, it stood on Mount Ostrytsia above Stuhna directly opposite the current village, and according to another, it was located 5 kilometers northwest of the current Kopachiv, near Stari Bezradychi. Tumasch belonged to the first line of defense of Kyiv against the threat from the nomads. In 1240, the last great battle between the prince's wife and the horde of Khan Batiy took place in the field near Ostrytsia Mountain, after the defeat in which Rus fell and the period of the Mongol yoke began (a memorial cross was erected).

The current name of the village is probably due to the fact that the new settlement specialized in the extraction (digging) of potter's clay.

In the second half of the 16th century, the village of Kopachiv belonged to the Bykovsky nobles. After the Liberation War, it became the property of Ivan Vyhovskyi, the general scribe, and belonged to his descendants until the beginning of the 20th century.

A unique stone cross from the beginning of the 18th century has been preserved.

A few years ago, the creation of the historical and cultural center "Park Kyiv Rus" began on the territory of the village. The section of the Stuhna bank in the area of ​​the village has been declared a botanical reserve "Kopachiv slopes".

В другій половині XVI століття село Копачів належало шляхтичам Биковським. Після Визвольної війни перейшло у власність генерального писаря Івана Виговського і належало його нащадкам до початку XX століття.

Зберігся унікальний кам'яний хрест початку XVIII сторіччя.

Кілька років тому на території села почалося створення історико-культурного центру "Парк Київська Русь". Ділянка берега Стугни в районі села оголошена ботанічним заказником "Копачівські схили".
