Motyzhyn

The village of Motyzhyn is located 30 kilometers west of Kyiv along the Zhytomyr highway (M-06 "Kyiv-Chop"), administratively it belongs to the Bucha district. A part of Zmiyiv Val runs through the western outskirts of the village.

Motyzhyn was mentioned for the first time in 1162 in the Ipatiev Chronicle as Mutyzhyr - a fortified town on the approaches to the princely residence in Bilhorod (now Bilohorodka). The remains of ramparts and a defensive moat of the ancient Rus settlement, depicted on the coat of arms of Motyzhyn, have been preserved in the center of the village, in the former manor park near the House of Culture, on the shore of one of the ponds near the source of the Bucha River.

In the 16th and 17th centuries, the Motyzhyn Castle was built on the hillfort, which belonged to the great Kyiv landowners the Makarevychs (not preserved).

In the 18th and 19th centuries, Motyzhyn belonged to the Shymanovsky family. In 1822, a wooden church of Saint George was built on the site of the old church (a brick church of the same name was built in 1993, now it belongs to the OCU).

In 1921-1922, Motyzhyn was one of the centers of the armed anti-Bolshevik movement. In the center of the village, a monument was erected in honor of the soldiers from the same village who did not return from the fronts of the Second World War.

During the first month of Russian aggression in 2022, the village was under occupation and suffered significant destruction. About 30 residents, including the family of the village head Olga Sukhenko, were tortured by the invaders.

In the premises of the school there is a museum exposition dedicated to the history of Motyzhyn from the earliest times to the present day. In 2020, a private landscape park for family recreation "Dobropark" was opened on the northern outskirts of the village.

Село Мотижин розташоване у 30 кілометрах на захід від Києва по Житомирській трасі (М-06 "Київ-Чоп"), адміністративно належить до Бучанського району. Західною околицею села пролягає частина Зміївого валу.

Вперше Мотижин згадується в 1162 році в Іпатіївському літописі як Мутижир – укріплене місто на підступах до князівської резиденції у Білгороді (нинішня Білогородка). Залишки валів та оборонного рову давньоруського городища, що зображені на гербі Мотижина, збереглися в центрі села, у колишньому панському парку біля Будинку культури, на березі одного зі ставків біля витоків річки Буча.

У XVI-XVII століттях на городищі було зведено Мотижинський замок, що належав великим київським землевласникам Макаревичам (не зберігся).

У XVIII-XIX століттях Мотижин належав роду Шимановських. У 1822 на місці старого храму зведена дерев'яна Свято-Георгіївська церква (у 1993 році збудовано однойменний цегляний храм, зараз належить ПЦУ).

У 1921-1922 роках Мотижин був одним із центрів збройного антибільшовицького руху. У центрі села споруджено пам'ятник на честь воїнів-односельців, що не повернулися з фронтів Другої світової війни.

Протягом першого місяця російської агресії 2022 року село перебувало під окупацією, зазнало значних руйнувань. Близько 30 мешканців включно із родиною старости села Ольги Сухенко були закатовані загарбниками.

У приміщенні школи розташована музейна експозиція, присвячена історії Мотижина від найдавніших часів до сучасності. На північних околицях села у 2020 році відкрився приватний ландшафтний парк сімейного відпочинку "Добропарк".
