Ilnytsia

The village Ilnytsia on the Ilnychka River is located 5 kilometers northeast of Irshava. Administratively, it is part of the Irshava hromada of the Khust district of the Zakarpattia region.

Ilnytsia is considered one of the largest villages in Ukraine - its area is about 6,140 hectares, and the population exceeds 9,100 inhabitants.

The first mention of the village dates back to 1450. In the 19th century, it already had its own seal with a coat of arms: in the shield, crowned with a crown, there is an image of a sheep. At the same time, the mining of iron ore and brown coal began in the vicinity of the village, and a branch of the narrow-gauge railway was laid from Irshava. Many entrances to the former mines have been preserved. Coal mining continues to this day.

The wooden church of Peter and Paul in the center of the village was built in 1923-1928 under the leadership of local craftsman Pavlo Savko at the expense of the Orthodox community of the village. In 1991-1997, the modern Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built in its place.

Село Ільниця на річці Ільничка розташоване за 5 кілометрів на північний схід від Іршави. Адміністративно входить до складу Іршавської громади Хустського району Закарпатської області. 

Ільниця вважається одним із найбільших сіл України – його площа становить близько 6140 гектарів, а населення перевищує 9100 жителів.

Перша згадка про село датується 1450 роком. У XIX столітті воно вже мало власну печатку з гербом: у щиті, увінчаному короною, – зображення вівці. Тоді ж в околицях села розпочався видобуток залізної руди і бурого вугілля, з Іршави прокладена гілка вузькоколійки. Збереглося багато входів до колишніх шахт. Видобуток вугілля триває досі.
