Spas

The ancient Carpathian village of Spas is located 10 kilometers south of Kolomyia.

It was first mentioned in 1433 as Ispas (from Jesus the Savior). In those days, the Ispass Monastery existed here. In 1621-1626, the village was completely burned by Turks and Tatars, including the monastery. For a long time there was only a chapel instead of a temple. At the end of the 18th century, the Church of the Transfiguration was built at the expense of the parishioners, which has survived to this day on the northern outskirts of the village.

A monument to the writer, public figure, priest Markiyan Shashkevych, ideologue of the national revival of Western Ukraine was erected.
