General information about Mykolaiv
The industrial city of Mykolaiv is located 30 kilometers south of Lviv.
It has been known since 1570, when the Polish king Sigismund II August granted the nobleman Mykola Tarl the right to found a town here and call it after himself. In 1820, the Polish count Stanislav Skarbek bought the surrounding lands. During the First World War, a line of Austrian field fortifications covering the road to the Carpathians passed near Mykolaiv (an observation point has been preserved).
The industrial landscape of the city is now shaped by the tall pipes of the Mykolaiv Cement Plant (Lafarge).

Промислове місто Миколаїв розташоване в 30 кілометрах на південь від Львова.
Відоме з 1570 року, коли польський король Сигізмунд II Август надав шляхтичу Миколі Тарлу право заснувати тут місто й назвати його своїм ім'ям. В 1820 році навколишні землі купив польський граф Станіслав Скарбек. Під час Першої світової війни поряд з Миколаєвом пройшла лінія австрійських полевих укріплень, що прикривали дорогу на Карпати (зберігся спостережний пункт).
Індустріальний пейзаж міста зараз формують високі труби Миколаївського цементного заводу (Lafarge).
В околицях Миколаєва можна відвідати грот "Прийма", де виявлено поселення неандертальців.

Austrian Pillbox
Castle / fortress
The Austrian Pillbox (DOT) from the First World War is located on a 30-meter cliff on the northern outskirts of Mykolaiv.
An entrance and two separate rooms 20 by 7 meters have been cut into the sandstone rock. Stairs lead to the second floor to the stone-concrete tower of Pillbox.
Pillbox was used as an observation post and fire control center - the northern part of the city of Mykolaiv and the road leading to it are clearly visible from a height.

Mykolaiv Historical and Local Lore Museum

The Historical and Local History Museum of Mykolayiv was opened in 1989 in one of the old one-story buildings in the city center opposite the Greek Catholic Church of Saint Nicholas.
In the department of archeology you can get acquainted with the archeological materials of the Stilsko settlement and the collection of ancient weapons.
The ethnographic section of the museum is devoted to the history of ancient Mykolayiv crafts - pottery and flax processing. The model of the Mykolayiv cement plant is presented.

Pryima Grotto

The Pryima Grotto is located in the middle of the forest, 2 kilometers southeast of Mykolayiv, not far from the small village of Pryima.
A 46,000-year-old settlement of Neanderthals was discovered in the cave. Also recorded are materials from the Early Iron Age, XVIII-XIX centuries (Upper canopy), XVIII-XIX centuries (Lower Cave) and Mousterian era (Upper floor-grotto).
