Ustia

The village of Ustia is located on the banks of the Dniester River among the low hills of Lviv Opillya on the western outskirts of Mykolayiv, 35 kilometers south of Lviv. Administratively, it is part of the Stryi district of the Lviv region.

The name is related to the fact that the village is located near the mouth of the Shchyrka River, where it flows into the Dniester.

According to legend, it was founded by Basilian monks. A small chapel on a hill between the Dniester and Shchyrka marks the place where the first settlement was and the old wooden church stood.

The village of Ustia is located on the banks of the Dniester River among the low hills of Lviv Opillya on the western outskirts of Mykolayiv, 35 kilometers south of Lviv. Administratively, it is part of the Stryi district of the Lviv region.

The name is related to the fact that the village is located near the mouth of the Shchyrka River, where it flows into the Dniester.

According to legend, it was founded by Basilian monks. A small chapel on a hill between the Dniester and Shchyrka marks the place where the first settlement was and the old wooden church stood.

The earliest written mention of Ustia dates back to 1433, when it belonged to the possessions of King Wladysłav II Yahaylo (some sources attribute the first mention to 1403). Over the centuries, the village was repeatedly devastated during Tatar raids. In the 18th and 19th centuries, Ustia was one of the centers of shipbuilding on the Dniester. During Austrian times, the village was owned by Count Stanislav Skarbek.

The brick church of Saint Mykyta was built in the center of the village according to the project of the architect Kazymyr Zhechytskyi in 1908-1909. The building of the old inn of the beginning of the 20th century, which was later turned into a club, has been preserved.

In 1989, a monument to Taras Shevchenko by sculptor Ivan Samotos, who was born and lived in Ustia for a long time, was erected in the village (the manor museum was opened).

The obelisk monument in the form of a trident was erected in 2019 in honor of 15 UPA fighters who died here in the battle with the Russian invaders in 1945.

Мурована церква Святого Микити збудована в центрі села за проєктом архітектора Казимира Жечицького у 1908-1909 роках. Збереглася будівля старої корчми початку XX століття, яку пізніше перетворили на клуб.

1989 року в селі встановлено пам'ятник Тарасу Шевченку роботи скульптора Івана Самотоса, який народився і тривалий час жив в Усті (відкрито музей-садибу).

Пам'ятник-обеліск у вигляді тризуба встановлено 2019 року на честь 15 борців УПА, які загинули тут в бою з російськими окупантами у 1945 році.
