The ancient picturesque village of Vodianyky is located 15 kilometers west of Zvenyhorodka, and is developing as a ski resort.
People have lived here since ancient times, but the appearance of the current settlement dates back to the 16th century. In the 16th and 17th centuries, here, on the ramparts of the Scythian hillfort, there was an outpost on the southern edge of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Until 1917, this land belonged to the Potocki family.
In Soviet times, there was a resort area here, on the basis of which, in 2008, the construction of a modern ski complex began.
"Sovyn Yar" Architectural and Landscape Complex
Park / garden , Ethnographic complex
The architectural and landscape ethnographic complex "Sovyn Yar" was opened in 2024 at the initiative of the rector of the Cherkasy National University named after Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, the former governor of the Cherkasy region, Oleksandr Cherevko, in his native village of Vodianyky in the Cherkasy region.
45 architectural objects, sculptural compositions and monuments tell about the history of the region, its legends and tales. Among them is the sign of the foundation of the village of Vodianyky "Trident", reconstruction of the 17th-century Cossack Ascension Church, a parish school with a bell tower, a complex of windmills, a sculptural composition "Seven Saints" and ancient Cossack crosses.
The basis of the complex is Kateryna's Park, named after the wife of the founder of the complex. Its architectural elements are dedicated to the themes of love and family: "Vodianyky pedigree" (sculptor Mykola Telizhenko), "Arch of Eternity", "Legends of Sovyn Yar", "Guardian Angel of Kateryna's Park", etc.
On the shores of the ponds there are recreation areas. Nearby is a recreation complex with a hotel and a restaurant.
Holy Ascension Church
Temple
The Holy Ascension wooden church in Vodianyky is the closest copy of the 17th century Cossack church, which was built with the help of Oleksandr Cherevko, a native of the village.
The carved iconostasis, made in the Ukrainian Baroque style, has no gilding at all, which also corresponds to the canons of that time. The simplicity of the decoration is complemented by ancient icons written on boards. The bell tower is also built of wood.
The Church of the Ascension belongs to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
There are three windmills on the hill behind the temple. Nearby is the "Vodianyky Kish" children's camp, designed in the style of a Cossack outpost.
