General information about Saint Elijah Church (Kyiv)
The Saint Elijah Church in Podil is called the oldest Orthodox church in Kyiv.
A beautiful baroque church near the Dnipro embankment was built on the site of the first Christian temple of the ancient city. According to legend, the wooden church of Saint Elijah was founded by representatives of the Varangian family of the Ryurykovychis. In 945, the soldiers of Prince Ihor of Kyiv took an oath here during the signing of peace with the Greeks.
In its present form, the Saint Elijah Church was rebuilt in 1692 by the burgher Pavlo Hudyma. In plan, it repeats its predecessor. A small belfry was added in the 18th century.
Currently, the Saint Elijah Church belongs to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate.

A commemorative cross in honor of the baptism of the people of Kyiv was installed near the temple gate.
Свято-Іллінську церкву на Подолі називають найдавнішим православним храмом Києва.
Красива барочна церква поряд з набережною Дніпра збудована на місці найпершого християнського храму стародавнього міста. Дерев'яну церкву Святого Іллі, за легендою, заснували представники варязького роду Рюриковичів. В 945 році дружинники київського князя Ігоря принесли тут клятву під час підписання миру з греками.
В нинішньому вигляді Іллінську церкву відбудовано в 1692 році міщанином Павлом Гудимою. В плані вона повторює свою попередницю. В XVIII столітті прибудовано невелику дзвіницю.
Наразі Іллінський храм належить УПЦ московського патріархату.
Біля храмової брами встановлено пам'ятний хрест на честь хрещення киян.
