General information about Basilian Monastery of Holy Apostles Peter and Paul (Drohobych)
The Basilian Monastery of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Drohobych is one of the best examples of sacred architecture in the city of the 19th century.
The monastery was founded in 1775. The current complex was built in 1828 on the initiative of hegumenYosafat Kachanovsky, after the old wooden Peter and Paul monastery of the Basilian fathers burned down.
During the Soviet rule, the monastery was closed, many monks were tortured in the torture chambers of the NKVD.
Since 1992, the Basilian Monastery of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Drohobych has been operating again.
Василіянський монастир святих Апостолів Петра і Павла в Дрогобичі – один із найкращих зразків сакральної архітектури міста XIX століття.
Монастир засновано в 1775 році. Нинішній комплекс споруджено в 1828 році з ініціативи ігумена Йосафата Качановського, після того як згорів старий дерев'яний Петропавлівський монастир отців василіян.
За радянської влади обитель була закрита, багато ченців замучено у катівнях НКВС.
З 1992 року василіянський монастир Святих Апостолів Петра і Павла у Дрогобичі знову діє.
