The Church of the Intercession was built in Nizhyn in 1757-1765 and has not been rebuilt since then.

Кам'яний храм виконаний у строгому стилі бароко майже без декору. В інтер'єрі можна побачити розписи кінця XVIII сторіччя.

В ХІХ столітті до західного фасаду Покровської церкви була прибудована витончена двоярусна дзвіниця в стилі ампір. Вона прикрашена майстерно виконаними чотириколонними портиками та трикутними фронтонами з чітким ритмом зубчиків.

Нині Покровська церква належить до Православної церкви України.
