General information about Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross (Berehove)
The Roman Catholic Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is one of the oldest Gothic buildings in Ukraine. The church was probably founded in the 11th century.
According to legend, the first temple at this place was built by the legendary founder of Berehove - shepherd Sas, who found a pot of gold here. In written sources, the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Berehove was first mentioned in 1247.
It was rebuilt in the Gothic style in 1418, but the Romanesque style is preserved on the northern portal. Restoration works were carried out in the 19th and 20th centuries.
A monument to the Hungarian king Istvan the Holy was erected in the yard.
Римсько-католицький костел Воздвиження Святого Хреста - одна з найстаріших готичних споруд в Україні. Ймовірно, заснування костелу належить до XI сторіччя.
За переказами, перший храм на цьому місці збудував легендарний засновник Берегового - пастух Сас, який знайшов тут горщик із золотом. У писемних джерелах Воздвиженський костел у Берегові вперше згадано в 1247 році.
Перебудовано в стилі готики в 1418 році, проте на північному порталі збережено романський стиль. Реставраційні роботи проводились у XIX та XX століттях.
На подвір'ї встановлено пам'ятник угорському королю Іштвану Святому.
