Attractions of Berdiansk district

The Berdiansk Art Museum was founded in 1930 on the initiative of painter and graphic artist, doctor of art history and professor, collector Isaac Brodsky.

The exposition was based on his personal collection of paintings, including paintings by Illya Repin, Kostyantyn Korovin, Mykhaylo Vrubel, Mykola Rerikh, Isaak Levitan, Kostyantyn Makovsky, Valentyn Syerov, Oleksandr Benua, Mark Shahal, and others, as well as works by Brodsky himself.

Currently, the museum fund consists of 4.5 thousand works of painting, sculpture, graphics and applied art. In particular, the museum presents Ivan Ayvazovsky's painting "Storm at Sea" (1896).

The Museum of the History of the City is the youngest of Berdiansk's museums. It was opened in 2005 for City Day.

The exhibition, formed on the basis of part of the collection of the local lore museum, highlights the history of Berdiansk from the time of its foundation at the beginning of the 19th century to the present day.

In particular, collections of samovars and irons of the 19th and 20th centuries are presented.

The Berdiansk lighthouse on the far spit began to operate in 1838.

One of the oldest buildings in Berdiansk has practically not changed in two centuries. Changes affected only navigation devices. Currently, a radio beacon is installed at a height of 70 meters, which is turned on when necessary. And in everyday life, an installation with rotating electric beacon equipment works.

The lighthouse is located on the edge of the Berdiansk spit.

Berdiansk Museum of Local Lore named after Vasyl Kravchenko was founded in 1929.

It is located on the first floor of a three-story residential building of the middle of the 20th century.

Objects from the Scythian period of the IV century BC are presented. The interior of a Ukrainian peasant house of the 19th century has been reconstructed. Separate expositions tell about the Greeks and Bulgarians of the Black Sea region.

In the square in front of the museum, a collection of Polovtsian stone women is exhibited, as well as an ancient cannon, raised in the middle of the 19th century from the ship "Boyets" sunk during the Crimean War.

The Petro Shmidt Memorial House-Museum in Berdiansk is dedicated to the famous revolutionary Lieutenant Petro Shmidt, who in 1905 raised an uprising on the cruiser "Ochakiv", as well as to his father Petro Shmidt, who in 1876-1886 served as the chief of the city and port of Berdiansk, greatly contributing to their landscaping

The museum is located in the mayor's house opposite the park laid out by Petro Shmidt the elder.

The exposition on the first floor tells about the Sevastopol Uprising of 1905, one of the organizers of which was Lieutenant Shmidt.

On the second floor, the interiors of the houses of wealthy citizens of the beginning of the 20th century are partially reproduced.

Private open-air zoo "Safari" was created in Berdiansk in 2004 by entrepreneur Ihor Kalchenko.

It occupies an area of 2.5 hectares at the very beginning of the Berdianska Spit.

The territory is well planned: aviaries, ponds, an alpine hill, rest areas, cafes.

Berdiansk Zoo "Safari" has about 60 species of exotic animals. 36 of them are listed in the International Red Book. So, during the existence of the zoo, 6 Far Eastern leopards were born here, of which there are only 40 left on the planet. 6 lion cubs, 4 Ussuri tiger cubs, 4 monkeys and others were also born. All animals have spacious enclosures and are well cared for.

At the entrance to the territory of the "Safari" zoo, you can buy feed for independent feeding of animals.
