Flooded church

Temple , Architecture

During the creation of the Kaniv Reservoir in 1972, several villages on the outskirts of Rzhyshchiv were flooded. On the site of the former village of Husyntsi, the half-flooded Transfiguration Church with a bell tower has been preserved.

It was built by the local landowner Husynskyi in 1812 (according to other data, in 1822). The temple in the Ukrainian Baroque style stood on a hill that turned into an island. It could only be reached by water in summer, and in winter it was possible to approach it on ice from the opposite bank of the Dnipro from Rzhyshchiv (difficult access through the forest).

For a long time, the church remained dilapidated. In 2009, shore strengthening works, raising the level of the island and reconstruction of the temple began. A long bridge connects the island with the shore, where the Nicholas monastery-hermitage was recently founded. In the summer, you can organize a trip to the island by boat from the Rzhyshchiv pier.

Estate of Dolhoruky-Fadyeyevs "Lypky"

Natural object , Park / garden , Recreation area

Only the remains of the park and wonderful views of the Dnipro remained from the "Lypky" manor of the Dolhoruky-Fadyeyevs family estate in Rzhyshchiv.

In the 18th century, the manor belonged to Lieutenant General Adolphe Franzovich de Bandre du Plessis. His daughter Henrietta de Brande y Plessis married Major General Prince Pavlo Dolhoruky, who retired at the beginning of the reign of Paul I. After the Franco-Russian war in 1812, the future Decembrists Bestuzhev-Ryumin, the Muravyov-Apostol brothers, Prince Trubetsky visited the Rzhyshchiv estate of the Dolhorukys.

Princess Olena Dolhorukova, who married Andriy Fadyeyev, was born here. For some time they lived in Rzhyshchiv. Their grandchildren are the statesman Serhii Witte and the writer-theosophist Olena Blavatska (Blavatsky's mother, the writer Olena Fadyeyeva-Han, was born in Rzhyshchiv).

On a high cliff above the Dnipro, a part of the manor park "Lypky" with an old linden avenue has been preserved. This place is great for picnics.

Holy Trinity Church

Temple , Architecture

The Holy Trinity Church in Rzhyshchiv was built in 1853-1860 on the site of an old wooden church known since the 17th century.

The initiator of the construction of the stone temple was Countess Dzyalynska from the ancient Rzhyshchiv family of Voronychi.

In the architecture of the Trinity Church, the style of classicism is consistent with the features of the so-called diocesan architecture of the second half of the 19th century.

On the northern wall, frescoes from the 19th century have been preserved.

Ksyondz's House

Architecture

The former building of the order's consistory, the only surviving building of the monastery of the Catholic order of the Trinitarians, is called the "Ksyondz's house" in Rzhyshchiv.

The Trinitarian monastery-fortress was founded in Rzhyshchiv in 1740 to resist Tatar raids and anti-Polish uprisings of the local residents, which became more frequent. It was a powerful fortification structure with two-meter-thick walls, watchtowers and loopholes, which served as Rzhyshchiv's citadel. The main building and architectural dominant of the entire city was the Church of the Holy Trinity. Three underground passages connected the basement of the church with the cells of the Trinitarian monastery inside the fortress, the Horyanshchyna area outside the fortress and the Polish cemetery nearby. The monastery housed the consistory of the order, as well as the Polish customs and border administrations.

During Soviet times, the monastery was closed, the church was destroyed by an explosion in 1984. The two-story building of the consistory ("Ksyondz's house") now houses the secondary school No. 2.

Transfiguration Monastery

Temple , Architecture

The Transfiguration Monastery in Rzhyshchiv is one of the oldest in Ukraine. According to legend, it was founded by Saints Anthony and Theodosius, who from time to time traveled here from the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.

The year 1626 is considered the official foundation date of the Rzhyshchiv Transfiguration Monastery. The Polish landowners of Voronichi, giving their lands to the monastery in 1649, claimed that the monastery was founded by their ancestors. It was one of three monasteries in the Kyiv region, where old and sick Cossacks lived to the end.

In 1653, the ambassador of the Moscow tsar, the boyar Vasyl Buturlin, met here with the hetman of Ukraine Bohdan Khmelnitsky, where the terms of the alliance treaty were discussed.

At the beginning of the 20th century, there were 3 churches in the monastery: Saint Barbara, Transfiguration of the Lord and Life-giving Source. In 1927, the monastery was dissolved, a zootechnical school was placed on the territory, then a construction technical school.

In 1995, the Transfiguration Monastery was revived. Cells from the end of the 19th century have been preserved. Located on a hill above the Dnipro.
