A new exhibition has been set up in Lutsk's "Okolny Castle" for the anniversary of its opening

The "Okolny Castle" museum space in Lutsk is preparing a new exhibition for the second anniversary of the opening of this historical and cultural institution. It will present artifacts found by archaeologists during the clearing of the dungeons, reports "Suspilne".

Although the museum space is two years old, the premises themselves and the underground tiers of the ancient college of the Jesuit fathers are already about 400 years old, says Oksana Shtanko, head of the scientific and exhibition department.

"It was difficult, but we tried to single out the most aesthetic, most eloquent things. Therefore, now we have a piece of the fireplace decoration, which was most likely located either in these underground tiers or in the above-ground tiers of the Jesuit Fathers' College. It is about 300-350 years old," says Oksana Shtanko.

Based on the original ceramics discovered during the excavations, we can conclude that the inhabitants of ancient Luchesk had a high culture, says the scientist. The restored tiles with the symbols of the Jesuit order and ceramic jugs from the mid-17th century are presented in the exhibition not for the first time - the people of Luchesk could see them at other exhibitions, says Oksana Shtanko.

The photo project "Lutsk 1925-2025" compared the past and the present, what the city looked like a century ago. Then the author of the photos was photographer Henryk Poddębski, and in 2025 the photos of the buildings were taken by Kateryna Semchuk.

"When I took these photos, I was very surprised: a building that is 100 years old, and it has been preserved very well. When you see how it was and how it is, such surprise and admiration. I took the photos and I had this thought: what will it be like in another 100 years," says Kateryna Semchuk.

According to the photographer, for the exhibition she chose photos with easily recognizable places - this is the square, the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, Lesia Ukrainka Street, the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, etc.

Coats of arms and portraits of Volyn nobles are now hung on the walls of the dungeons.

"Portraits of people who were close to Lutsk, who built a career in Lutsk, or those about whom documents speak of a certain period of their stay in Lutsk," says the museum worker.

According to Oksana Shtanko, the updated exhibition in the museum space "Okolny Castle" will be open for four months.

Музейний простір "Окольний замок" у Луцьку готує нову експозицію до другої річниці відкриття цього історико-культурного закладу. Тут презентуватимуть артефакти, знайдені археологами під час розчищення підземель, повідомляє "Суспільне".

Хоча музейному простору два роки, проте самим приміщенням та підземним ярусам давнього колегіуму отців єзуїтів уже близько 400 років, каже завідувачка науково-експозиційного відділу Оксана Штанько.

"Це було складно, але ми намагалися виокремити найестетичніші, найпромовистіші речі. Тому зараз маємо частинку оздоби каміна, який, найімовірніше, розташовувався або у цих підземних ярусах, або у наземних ярусах колегіуму отців єзуїтів. Йому десь 300-350 років", – каже Оксана Штанько.

За оригінальною керамікою, яку виявили під час розкопок, можна зробити висновки, що мешканці стародавнього Лучеська мали високу культуру, каже науковиця. Відреставровані кахлі з символікою ордену єзуїтів та керамічні глечики середини XVII століття представлені в експозиції вже не вперше – їх лучани могли бачити й на інших виставках, розповідає Оксана Штанько.

У фотопроєкті "Луцьк 1925-2025" порівняли минуле та сучасне, який вигляд мало місто століття тому. Тоді автором світлин був фотограф Генрик Поддембський, а у 2025 світлини будівель робила Катерина Семчук.

"Коли робила ці фото я була дуже здивована: будівля, якій 100 років, і вона збереглася дуже гарно. Коли бачиш як було і як є, таке здивування і захоплення. Я знімкувала і в мене виникла така думка: яким воно буде ще через 100 років", – говорить Катерина Семчук.

Зі слів фотографині, для експозиції вибирала світлини з легко впізнаними місцями – це площа, Кафедральний собор святих Петра і Павла, вулиця Лесі Українки, Хрестовоздвиженська церква тощо.

На стінах підземель тепер розвішані герби та портрети волинських шляхтичів.

"Портрети людей, які були близькими до Луцька, які будували кар’єру у Луцьку або тих, про які мовлять документи про певний період їх перебування у Луцьку", – каже музейниця.

За словами Оксани Штанько, оновлена експозиція у музейному просторі "Окольний замок" діятиме упродовж чотирьох місяців.
