Old Austrian Bridge

Architecture

A large stone arch railway bridge-viaduct of Austrian times was laid in the valley of the Prut River in Vorokhta in 1895 during the construction of the railway Stanislav (Iavno-Frankivsk) – Yaremche – Vorokhta – Rakhiv.

The bridge is located on a railway bend and in a place where the river has a wide channel, so it had to be made very long - 130 meters. The length of the widest span reaches 65 meters.

It is one of two large arched bridges in Vorokhta (the Yaremche-Verkhovyna highway passes under the second), it is considered one of the longest stone railway bridges in Europe.

Currently, the bridge is not operational - a new bridge has been built nearby.

Pniv Castle

Castle / fortress

The powerful defensive Pniv Castle was built in the foothills of the Carpathians at the end of the 16th century on the ancient Transcarpathian trade route from Galicia to Hungary.

It served as a residence for magnates of the Polish (according to other sources - Hungarian or Moldavian) Kuropatv family, and also served as a customs point. The pentagonal structure with four corner towers and one gate tower was at one time the most powerful fortress in the Carpathian region. The residential palace of Kuropatv was located in the center.

The castle repeatedly withstood tests of strength during the Polish-Turkish wars of the 17th century, as well as during popular uprisings led by Hrynia Kardash, Oleksa Dovbush and others. In 1648, the Pniv Castle, whose defense was managed by Mykola Kuropatv, withstood the siege of the 5,000-strong Cossack army under the command of Colonel Semen Vysochan. After the end of the Liberation War under the leadership of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, the owners had to rebuild the castle from the ruins, but soon it lost its importance and fell into disrepair.

Restoration attempts were made both in the 19th and 20th centuries, but so far without success.

Access is free.

Saint Francis Church

Temple , Architecture

The Church of Saint Francis in Deliatyn was built in 1857.

The Austrian emperor Franz Joseph came to Deliatyn and took part in the foundation of the temple, pouring gold ducats into every corner. He personally planted four cedars brought from Vienna near the church.

The Church of Saint Francis is built in the Romanesque-Gothic style. The temple was consecrated in 1882.

In 1945, the Soviet authorities closed the church, the premises were used as a military warehouse. In the 1970s, it housed one of the workshops of the local lumber mill, and then it was simply left unattended and falling into disrepair.

Thanks to scientist Volodymyr Klapchuk, who tried to preserve the church by setting up a museum in it, the church was recognized as an architectural monument. In 1992, after the restoration of Ukraine's independence, the church was returned to the Roman Catholic community of Deliatyn.

Saint John the Merciful Church

Temple , Architecture

The Church of Saint John the Merciful is located in the old cemetery on the outskirts of Yaremche - in the village of Yamna, which is on the way out of the city in the direction of Bukovel.

The wooden temple was built in 1663 in the best traditions of folk architecture of the Hutsul region. The church is cruciform in plan, single-headed, with a porch on the crowns of log cabins.

A small iconostasis located in the central log cabin, a large number of embroideries and old icons give the interior of the church the appearance of a museum of folk art.

Nearby is a wooden belfry, the second tier of which is made in the form of an arcade-gallery.

The Church of Saint John the Merciful in Yaremche is a very interesting example of the Hutsul school of folk architecture.

Ukrainian Sacred Art Museum

Museum / gallery

The Ukrainian Museum of Sacred Art opened in November 2019 on the territory of the Baron SPA Hotel in the center of the Yaremche resort. The museum presents a unique collection of religious works of the 17th-21st centuries.

The basis of the exposition are rare works of church art, as well as modern icon painting samples, reproduced from the originals. Most of the icons in the museum's exposition repeated the tragic fate of the Ukrainian church and culture. The total ban and destruction of monuments left deep wounds on the canvases themselves, most of which were saved by patron Ivan Havron and restoration artist, head of the restoration department of the Ivano-Frankivsk Museum of Local History Valeriy Tverdokhlib, after undergoing conservation and restoration.

The collection of the Ukrainian Museum of Sacred Art includes more than 60 works. The pearls of the collection are the icons of the 18th century "Saint Luke" and "Descent into Hell".
