Assumption of Holy Virgin Church

Temple , Architecture

The wooden Church of the Assumption of the Holy Virgin Mary in Voloskivtsi was built in 1765 next to the ancient castle.

Forms are characteristic of Ukrainian Baroque architecture. The temple is cruciform in plan, at the intersection of four high lateral log cabins, an octagonal top is placed. The sides of the sleeves have a pronounced slope towards the center of the structure. In this way, the masters strengthened the perspective and created the illusion of a higher building.

From the western side, the temple is combined with a three-tiered wooden bell tower, added in the middle of the 19th century.

The Church of the Assumption in Voloskivtsi is an architectural monument of national importance.

Dolynsky Palace

Palace / manor

The wooden palace of the Dolynskyi landowners in the village of Pekariv in the Chernihiv region was built in 1834 in the style of classicism. This is a rare example of wooden manor construction of the Left Bank of Ukraine, preserved from the 19th century.

The regimental osavul Hryhoriy Karpovych Dolynskyi received the village of Pekariv from hetman Kyrylo Rozumovskyi in 1762. His grandson Hryhoriy Hryhorovych Dolynskyi built a new palace on the site of his grandfather's estate. Its last resident was the landowner Sofiya Dolynska.

The two-story building is made in the style of early classicism with baroque elements. The main and park facades are decorated with four-column porticoes of the Tuscan order. The walls are decorated with wood carvings. A spiral staircase leads to the second floor.

During Soviet times, the Dolynskyi estate housed a school, thanks to which the building has survived to this day. The palace has been empty since 2001. Activists plan restoration.

Holy Intercession Church

Temple , Architecture

The Holy Intercession Church was built in the village of Zhuklia at the expense of Major General Mykola Komstadius.

It is considered a very valuable architectural monument, since there are no more churches of this type in Ukraine.

The church was founded in 1911 on the site of a burned down wooden church. According to legend, the owner of the village promised the residents to build a temple that does not burn. For this, he ordered an architect and builders from St. Petersburg.

The Pokrovsky Church is made in neo-Rus style. It combines elements of the architecture of the northern regions of Ancient Rus with Ukrainian compositional techniques. The interior of the temple is decorated with original paintings. The iconostasis has not survived to this day.

Intercession Church

Temple , Architecture

The Cossack Church of the Intercession of the Holy Mother of God in Syniavka was founded in 1706.

The current wooden Intercession Church was built at the expense of Pavlo Yunytsky in the traditional forms of Ukrainian Baroque, characteristic of the Left Bank of Ukraine in the 17th and 18th centuries. Cut from pine logs. The central octagonal log house dominates the composition, the eastern log house is hexagonal. Their longitudinal axes in the west-east direction do not coincide, which indicates that the plans were developed at different times. The babinets is covered with a hinged top, the light lantern is covered with a flat ceiling. The forms of crowns are baroque. Window openings of various shapes play an important role in the composition.

The Church of the Intercession in Syniavka is one of the few monuments of folk architecture in Chernihiv region that has preserved its original forms.

Nearby is the grave of the Ukrainian kobzar Petro Tkachenko.

Museum-memorial complex of partisan glory "Lisohrad"

Museum / gallery , Historic area

The museum complex "Lisohrad" in the forests in the north of Chernihiv region is dedicated to the local partisan movement during the Second World War.

In 1942-1943, the Chernihiv partisan units of Mykola Popudrenko and Oleksiy Fedorov operated in the Yelino forests. Near the village of Yelino, there was a whole partisan town made of dugouts, which was called "Lisohrad". From here, the partisans went on combat operations to destroy enemy garrisons and carry out sabotage on railways.

In 2010, enthusiasts recreated the partisan camp, restoring 3 dugouts and building 2 more. The partisan oven was also recreated, and the partisan well and trenches were cleared.

The exhibits in the dugouts allow you to feel the spirit of partisanship, to see in what difficult living conditions people had to live and defend their land.

Oleksandr Dovzhenko Literary and Memorial Museum

Museum / gallery

The Literary Memorial Museum of Oleksandr Dovzhenko was opened in the film director's homeland in Sosnytsia.

He was born in 1894 in a large rural family in the village of Vyunishche within the current urban-type settlement of Sosnytsia. From there he went to study at the Hlukhiv Teacher's Institute, then to Zhytomyr and pre-revolutionary Kyiv.

His complex biography included service in the troops of the Ukrainian People's Republic, detention in a Bolshevik concentration camp, joining the Communist Party, Polish captivity, work at the People's Commissariat of Foreign Affairs, etc.

Dovzhenko gained worldwide fame as the founder of the Ukrainian National School of Cinematography after the release of his famous films "Zvenyhora" and "Zemlya", the latter of which is now included in the lists of the best films of all times and nations.

Creation of the director's museum in Sosnytsia began in 1957, after his death. Dovzhenko's parental house has been preserved, in which the atmosphere that surrounded him in his youth is reproduced. Collections of his short stories and film stories are presented in the literary exhibition.

An impressive, expressive monument to Dovzhenko (1974, sculptor Anatoliy Fuzhenko, architect Anatoliy Ihnashchenko) was installed in the courtyard of the estate.
