Saint Nicholas Estate

Entertainment / leisure

The Chapel of Saint Nicholas is currently the only structure built as part of the "Mansion of Saint Nicholas" project, which is being implemented by the Kosiv city government in the village of Cherhanivka.

The project envisages the creation of a large-scale cultural-spiritual tourist-creative complex, where adults and children can spend their time in an interesting and informative way. So far, the complex exists only in sketches.

Meanwhile, in the neighboring village of Pistyn, an alternative facility has been operating for several years - "Saint Nicholas Estate".

Saint Paraskeva Church

Temple , Architecture

The wooden church of Saint Paraskeva with a bell tower was built in the center of the village of Kosmach in 1753.

In the early 1960s, the church was closed by the Soviet authorities. At the same time, some of the icons from the church iconostasis were taken to Kyiv for the filming of Serhiy Paradzhanov's film "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors". After the filming, the icons were transferred for storage to the Arts of Prykarpattya Museum in Ivano-Frankivsk, which saved them from destruction by the fire that destroyed the church of Saint Paraskeva in 1983.

The bell tower, damaged by the fire, was saved and restored.

Sniatyn City Hall

Architecture

Sniatyn Town Hall is the main architectural dominant of the city of Sniatyn. Along with Buchach, it is considered one of the most beautiful and tallest in Ukraine. Built in the style of early historicism, this elegant building combines architectural elements of neoclassicism, neo-Renaissance, English neo-Gothic and neo-Baroque.

The first building of the magistrate in Sniatyn existed back in 1790. Construction of the current town hall began in 1861. The author of the project is the Chernivtsi architect Joseph Schreiber. The building was rebuilt several times, the last reconstruction was carried out in 1909 (this date can be seen on the weather vane).

The three-story building is decorated with a 50-meter clock tower. Initially, it was also used as a fire bell tower. The chime mechanism was made by watchmaker Michał Mięsowicz from Krosno (Poland). The Sniatyn coat of arms is placed under the dials.

You can climb the spiral staircase to the observation deck of the town hall, overcoming 152 steps (the tour should be booked in advance).

Until the first half of the 20th century, the town hall housed the city magistrate, later - various educational institutions and other institutions. Now it is again used as the main administrative building of the city - it houses the Sniatyn City Council. Restoration has been carried out.

The Sniatyn Town Hall also houses the Vasyl Andrusiak Museum of Liberation Struggles and the Pokuttia  Culture and Books Museum.

Stometrivka

Historic area

Residents of Ivano-Frankivsk call the pedestrian part of Nezalezhnosti Street, from Vicheva Square to Ivan Franko Street, "Stometrivka" ("One-hundred meter) or simply "Sotka".

Its real length is about half a kilometer. In the 16th century, it was called the Tysmenytsia road, as it connected Stanislaviv (former name Ivano-Frankivsk) with Tysmenytsia. In 1869, it was renamed Sapezhynska in honor of Leon Sapeha. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was the main and busiest street of the city. The most expensive houses were built here, the best hotels and shops were opened.

Now it is the most popular walking area of the city. There are many street cafes and restaurants, bookstores and boutiques. Every year, new forged sculptures appear on "Stometrivka" and nearby streets, which are opened during the "Feast of Blacksmiths" festival.

Between the First and Second World Wars, the Jewish population in Bilshivtsi reached about 2 thousand people, the town had three synagogues, one of which survived. Tarasa Shevchenko Park

Park / garden

Tarasa Shevchenko Park of Culture and Recreation in Ivano-Frankivsk was opened in 1946 on the territory of Baron Romashkan's estate.

Around the estate, on an area of 22 hectares, there was a forest in which the Potocki once liked to hunt. At the end of the 19th century, the territory began to be cultivated, alleys were laid, and later a number of cascading ponds were dug. During Soviet times, the territory was redeveloped several times. A small bust of Shevchenko was installed here, which is still the only monument to Kobzar in Ivano-Frankivsk.

Two ponds have been preserved. On one of them, called "Swan Lake", an island has been created with a house for swans and ducks (local residents come to feed them on weekends).

There is also an amusement park here.

In 2010, the "Stone of Love" brought from Cana, a small town in Galilee, where Jesus blessed the newlyweds, was installed on the day of the city. According to legend, this place is considered lucky for lovers: here they make dates, declare their love and take pictures on their wedding day.
